The Grand Seiko SBGE215 is an older, 44 mm titanium Spring Drive GMT introduced in 2018. Its appeal is the combination of a substantial sports-watch case, a black dial and the 9R66 movement family’s travel-oriented GMT functions. A 2019 Japanese reference list gives its historical price as ¥770,000 plus tax; that figure is not a guide to what a used example should cost today. There is no physical inspection behind this article, so tactile impressions are attributed to the author of the cited hands-on coverage.
What the SBGE215 is
The SBGE215 is an automatic Spring Drive GMT in Grand Seiko’s Sport Collection. The Seiko Guy’s exact-reference guide dates its introduction to 2018 (The Seiko Guy). A 2019 Japanese reference list identifies the model as having a bright titanium case and caseback, a black dial and caliber 9R66 (Piazo’s 2019 Sport Collection list).
Case size, titanium and wrist fit
The same 2019 list reports a 44 mm case and 14.7 mm thickness. Those are sizeable dimensions, and the available specifications do not establish lug-to-lug length or exact weight, so diameter alone cannot tell you how the watch will sit on your wrist. Try it on if possible, especially if you prefer compact or low-profile watches.
Time+Tide’s hands-on coverage describes the lower weight of titanium as noticeable on a substantial watch (Time+Tide’s hands-on article). That is the author’s impression, not a measurement or an observation from a physical review here. Titanium may make a large watch feel less heavy than a comparable steel watch, but the available evidence does not provide a measured weight for the SBGE215.

What the 9R66 GMT movement offers
Grand Seiko’s official pages for the separate SBGE285 and SBGE281 models document the 9R66 as self-winding with manual winding, with approximately 72 hours of power reserve and stated accuracy of ±15 seconds per month (±1 second per day). They also describe a 24-hour GMT hand, a power-reserve indicator and calendar-linked adjustment when changing the time difference (Grand Seiko SBGE285; Grand Seiko Boutique Online SBGE281). These are documented 9R66 family features on comparator watches, not independently confirmed figures from an SBGE215-specific official product sheet.
In practical terms, the 24-hour hand can track a second time zone while the main time display shows local time. The calendar-linked adjustment is useful when changing time zones because the date can follow the time change. The official SBGE285 page also describes that comparator’s seconds hand as gliding silently; this is Grand Seiko’s description of the SBGE285, not a direct observation of an SBGE215 example.

Historical price and buying an SBGE215 today
Piazo’s 2019 Japanese list gives the SBGE215 a list price of ¥770,000 plus tax. That is a historical Japanese retail figure, not a current price, resale estimate or appraisal. The available information does not establish the model’s present catalog status or current market value.
Is the Grand Seiko SBGE215 worth buying? It may suit someone seeking a large titanium GMT with Spring Drive and a black dial, provided the dimensions and a specific example’s condition work for them. Before buying a pre-owned watch, assess the individual listing rather than relying on the old list price:
