The Seiko 5 Sports SRPJ81 is the most compact option here; the SRPD55 gives you a larger sports-watch case and rotating bezel; and the Tissot PRX 35mm pairs a compact case with an integrated bracelet and an 80-hour stated power reserve. These three models are a documented starting point, not a complete market ranking or hands-on test.
What a beginner should compare first
An automatic watch is a mechanical watch powered through wrist movement. Its power reserve is the approximate running time after it is fully wound and no longer being worn; actual running time depends on the watch’s condition and use. A longer reserve can be convenient if you rotate watches or leave one unworn for a day or two.
- Fit: Compare diameter, thickness and case length, then try the watch on if possible. Wrist shape affects how a case sits, so diameter alone cannot guarantee a good fit.
- Style and use: The SRPD55 has a rotating bezel and sports-watch presentation, the SRPJ81 is field-inspired, and the PRX has an integrated-bracelet design and mother-of-pearl dial.
- Materials and water rating: The two Seikos use Hardlex crystal; the cited Tissot uses sapphire crystal with antireflective coating. All three list 10 bar/100 m water resistance. Treat that as the stated specification, not a promise that every water activity is suitable; consult the model manual for use guidance.
- Budget: The U.S. brand listings for these specific references range from $315 to $875. They are not a comprehensive survey of watch prices, and listings can change.

Which one fits your priorities?
Choose the Seiko SRPJ81 for a smaller, field-inspired watch
At 36.4 mm in diameter and 44.4 mm from end to end, the SRPJ81 is the compact Seiko option in this group. It has the same approximately 41-hour reserve and stated 10 bar/100 m rating as the larger Seiko, but its field-inspired styling gives it a different character. Its relatively modest diameter does not guarantee a fit: consider its 44.4 mm length and 12.5 mm thickness as well.

Choose the Seiko SRPD55 for a larger sports-watch look
The SRPD55’s 42.5 mm diameter, rotating bezel and sports-watch presentation make it the largest option here. Its listed 46 mm length and 13.4 mm thickness matter just as much as the diameter when assessing how it will sit on your wrist. Seiko specifies an automatic 4R36 movement, day/date display, approximately 41-hour reserve, Hardlex crystal and 10 bar/100 m water resistance.
Choose the Tissot PRX 35mm for its integrated-bracelet design and longer stated reserve
This specific PRX combines a 35 mm stainless-steel case with a mother-of-pearl dial, integrated-bracelet design, see-through caseback and sapphire crystal with antireflective coating. Tissot lists up to 80 hours of power reserve and 10 bar/100 m water resistance. The brand positions this version as versatile and unisex; that is Tissot’s description, not a universal fit judgment. Check how the case and bracelet sit on your wrist before buying.

Making the choice
- Set your budget. Use the current listing for the exact reference you want; the prices above are manufacturer-published U.S. listings, not a promise of today’s price or local availability.
- Compare the full case measurements. If possible, try the watch on. Otherwise, compare its diameter and length with a watch you already find comfortable, and account for thickness.
- Pick the design you will wear. Choose between the SRPJ81’s field-inspired styling, the SRPD55’s larger sports presentation and rotating bezel, or the PRX’s integrated bracelet and mother-of-pearl dial.
- Decide whether reserve matters to your routine. The Seikos list approximately 41 hours; this PRX lists up to 80 hours. Reserve is useful context, not a measure of accuracy or durability.
- Check the exact reference and its guidance. Confirm the model number, crystal, bracelet or strap configuration, current price and water-use instructions before purchase.
What these specifications do not establish
Manufacturer product pages document features and dimensions, but they do not establish which watch is most accurate, most reliable, easiest to service or best value over the long term. No independent accuracy measurements, service-cost comparison or real-world durability test is available for these three references here. Choose based on fit, design, intended use and budget rather than treating this shortlist as a tested ranking.
