Its defining features are an icy-blue dial inspired by Nanataki waterfall near Mount Iwate, a 40 mm high-intensity titanium case and bracelet, and the automatic Caliber 9S85 movement. Grand Seiko’s published specifications describe the watch, but do not establish independent wear impressions or a hands-on timekeeping result.
What is the Grand Seiko SBGH349?
The SBGH349 is a mechanical Hi-Beat watch in Grand Seiko’s Heritage Collection. The UK boutique identifies it as the Icefall Hi-Beat in titanium and lists the SBGH347 separately, so the two references should not be treated as the same model. The official product pages describe the SBGH349’s materials, design and specifications; they do not provide a basis for personal claims about how it feels on the wrist or performs in independent testing.
Is the SBGH349 titanium?
Yes. Grand Seiko specifies high-intensity titanium for the exterior, including the case and bracelet. The brand says this material is 30 percent lighter than steel and highly resistant to rust, corrosion and scratches. Those are manufacturer comparisons, not an independent test of this watch, and they do not mean the surface is scratch-proof or maintenance-free.
Why is it called “Icefall”?
The dial’s bluish-white color and pattern represent the winter icefall at Nanataki, a 30-meter waterfall in Hachimantai, Iwate Prefecture, Japan. Grand Seiko places the inspiration near Mount Iwate, visible from its mechanical-watchmaking studio in Shizukuishi. The brand describes the dial as evoking “an icefall that one might encounter in the dead of winter on Mount Iwate.”

Specifications are listed on Grand Seiko’s Singapore product page. The dimensions give more useful fit context than diameter alone: the case measures 46.6 mm from lug to lug and 13.0 mm thick. Whether those proportions suit a particular wrist depends on its shape and the wearer’s preferences; the figures are not a substitute for trying the watch on.
What does the 9S85 accuracy rating mean?
Grand Seiko publishes two accuracy ranges for the 9S85. The mean daily rate is +5 to -3 seconds per day under controlled testing in fixed positions and conditions before the movement is cased. The separately stated normal-use accuracy is +8 to -1 seconds per day. The controlled figure is not a guarantee that every watch will keep that rate when worn; actual results can vary with conditions and use.

- Power reserve display on the back
- Power resrve Approx. 72 hours(3 days)
What does 10 bar water resistance mean?
The published rating is 10 bar. Grand Seiko’s listed specification does not by itself establish suitability for every kind of swimming or diving, so do not infer a specific activity recommendation from the number alone. Consult the watch’s official documentation or Grand Seiko for guidance on intended use.
How does the SBGH349 compare with the SBGH347?
Grand Seiko’s UK boutique lists the SBGH349 and SBGH347 separately, confirming that they are distinct references. The available official details here are not sufficient to make a reliable comparison of their materials, dimensions, movement specifications, dial differences or prices. A sound model-to-model decision requires checking the current official specifications for both references rather than assuming the details are interchangeable.
