Grand Seiko created it for the 44GS’s 55th anniversary and the 20th anniversary of its first GMT timepiece. The brand’s US boutique lists an edition of 1,200 at USD $8,500, but marks it “No Longer Available”; that listed price is not a current resale estimate or proof of new-stock availability.
What is the Grand Seiko SBGJ255?
The SBGJ255 is a mechanical GMT watch that pairs Grand Seiko’s angular 44GS design with a white dial, luminous paint and a high-beat automatic movement. Grand Seiko describes it as the Hi-Beat 36000 GMT 44GS 55th Anniversary Limited Edition. The anniversary name refers to the 44GS design’s 55th anniversary; the watch also marks 20 years since Grand Seiko’s first GMT timepiece. The brand calls it the first 44GS model to feature luminous paint on the dial. Grand Seiko’s SBGJ255 product page

At the time reflected by Grand Seiko’s US boutique listing, the SBGJ255 page shows USD $8,500 and the status “No Longer Available.” The page also identifies the edition as limited to 1,200 pieces. What movement and functions does it have?
The SBGJ255 uses Grand Seiko’s automatic caliber 9S86, a Hi-Beat 36000 movement with 37 jewels. It provides time, date and GMT functions. The boutique gives a 55-hour power reserve and states accuracy of +5 to -3 seconds per day “when static.” That is the brand’s stated static accuracy rating, not a guarantee of the watch’s day-to-day result on the wrist. What makes the titanium case and bracelet notable?
Grand Seiko specifies high-intensity titanium for both the case and bracelet, with a three-fold clasp. The brand describes the alloy as resistant to scratches and corrosion and says it is about 30% lighter than standard stainless steel. That weight comparison is Grand Seiko’s material claim, not an independent measurement here. The case is Zaratsu-polished. A sapphire window in the titanium case back reveals a gold-tone oscillating weight, whose color Grand Seiko says is achieved by anodic oxidation. Grand Seiko’s material and case-back description

For fit, the listed 40 mm diameter, 14 mm thickness, 46.2 mm case length and 19 mm lug width give more useful context than diameter alone. The listed bracelet is purpose-made for the titanium case; the 19 mm lug measurement by itself does not establish that a generic strap will fit correctly.

The similar reference numbers can be confusing, but the SBGH255 is a separate Grand Seiko professional 600 m diver, not another version of the SBGJ255 GMT. Grand Seiko’s page lists the diver with caliber 9S85, a 46.9 mm diameter, 17.0 mm thickness and 600 m water resistance. Those specifications belong to the SBGH255 and must not be attributed to the SBGJ255, which is the 40 mm 9S86 GMT with 100 m water resistance.
