The Grand Seiko SBGW291G and SBGW293G share the same core specification: a 36.5 mm stainless-steel case, hand-wound Caliber 9S64, and the design language of the 1967 44GS. The clearest distinction is their sunray dial color: silver on the SBGW291G and dark brown on the SBGW293G. Grand Seiko describes the SBGW291 as a modern reinterpretation of the original 44GS design; the SBGW293 is likewise presented as a contemporary take on that design.
How the SBGW291G and SBGW293G differ
In the official specifications cited here, these watches do not differ in case dimensions, movement, strap material, or listed water resistance. Choose between them primarily by dial color and whichever model is available through an authorized seller in your region.

Dial color is the main choice
SBGW291G: silver sunray
The SBGW291G’s silver sunray dial offers a lighter, more neutral look. Grand Seiko identifies the dial as silver-colored and describes the watch as a 36.5 mm modern reinterpretation of the original 44GS design on its Singapore product page.

SBGW293G: dark brown sunray
The SBGW293G uses a dark brown sunray dial. Grand Seiko’s Japanese listing also calls out its multifaceted indexes and hands, set against the compact case. See the official SBGW293G page.
Shared case size and wear considerations
Both models are listed at 36.5 mm across, 42.7 mm lug-to-lug, and 11.6 mm thick. Those numbers describe the same compact case proportions, so the published measurements do not establish a fit difference between the two. Wrist shape and personal preference still affect how a watch wears.
Rank #2
- Three-fold clasp with push button release
- Dual-curved sapphire crystal
- Power reserve display on the back
- Power resrve Approx. 72 hours(3 days)
Each has a stainless-steel case, box-shaped sapphire crystal with an inner anti-reflective coating, and an 18 mm crocodile leather band. Grand Seiko lists the weight as 66 g and water resistance as 10 bar for both models. Those are manufacturer specifications; follow the brand’s care guidance for use around water and leather-strap maintenance.
Caliber 9S64: manual winding and accuracy figures
Both watches use Grand Seiko’s hand-wound Caliber 9S64. The listed power reserve is approximately 72 hours, so the watch can run for about three days when fully wound, subject to the manufacturer’s qualification of “approximately.” A manual-winding movement requires winding by the wearer rather than relying on wrist motion to keep it running.

- Second hand halt mechanism (Hacking)
Grand Seiko lists a mean daily rate of +5 to -3 seconds per day under controlled measurement conditions, and separately lists normal-use accuracy as +10 to -1 seconds per day. These are manufacturer specifications, not a guarantee that an individual watch will show those exact results in daily wear.
