The Grand Seiko SBGW295 and Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Monoface Q716848J are both manually wound, dress-oriented watches, but they make very different cases for ownership. The Grand Seiko is a round, titanium limited-edition re-creation with a longer stated power reserve; the Reverso is a slim steel rectangle whose swiveling case reveals a surface for customization. “Reverso Tribute” covers multiple references, so this comparison uses the specific Q716848J listed on Jaeger-LeCoultre’s US site. If you mean another Tribute model, its specifications may differ.

How the case shapes differ—and what that means for fit
The SBGW295’s published 38.0 mm measurement is its round case diameter. Q716848J’s 40.1 × 24.4 mm dimensions describe a rectangular case, not a directly comparable diameter. It is also thinner at 7.56 mm, versus 10.9 mm for the Grand Seiko.
Those numbers can help you picture each watch, but they cannot establish which will feel better or suit a particular wrist. Case shape, wrist shape, and personal preference all matter. Try both on if fit is a deciding factor, especially if you are choosing for a smaller wrist.

Titanium re-creation or steel Reverso design?
Grand Seiko SBGW295: a 1960-inspired limited edition
Grand Seiko presents the SBGW295 as a re-creation of its first watch, introduced in 1960. The company says the curved dial and Grand Seiko lettering follow that original, with the urushi and maki-e treatments as exceptions. The modern watch places that design in a Brilliant Hard Titanium case and adds a see-through caseback and sapphire crystal.
Grand Seiko describes its proprietary titanium alloy as brighter than traditional titanium and as having twice the hardness of standard stainless steel. Those are the manufacturer’s material comparisons, not independent test results. The release also lists 4,800 A/m magnetic resistance.
Reverso Tribute Monoface Q716848J: a swiveling case and customizable reverse
Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Q716848J is a stainless-steel Monoface with a blue sunray-brushed dial. Its case swivels to reveal a reverse surface that can be customized with engraving or a lacquer motif. The Tribute styling references early Reverso design through details including gadroons, a railway-track minute marker, trapezoidal indices, and Dauphine hands.
The watch uses the manually wound in-house Calibre 822, which Jaeger-LeCoultre describes as a form movement designed for the contours of a non-round watch. The product page lists hour and minute functions.

Winding, power reserve, and accuracy
Both watches are manually wound. When fully wound, the SBGW295 has a stated 72-hour power reserve, compared with 42 hours for Q716848J. In practical terms, the Grand Seiko is specified to run longer between windings, though actual use depends on the watch’s state and conditions.
Grand Seiko lists the SBGW295’s mean daily rate as +5 to −3 seconds per day. The cited Jaeger-LeCoultre product-page material does not present an accuracy figure for Q716848J. That does not establish how either individual watch will perform in daily wear, and it is not a basis for claiming that one is more accurate.

Water resistance and everyday use
Both manufacturers list 3 bar water resistance. That shared rating does not make either watch a sports or swimming watch; follow the manufacturers’ guidance for water exposure and care rather than inferring suitability from the rating alone.
For strap changes, Q716848J’s official page specifies a blue calfskin strap with quick-release interchangeability and an 18 mm lug width. Those details apply to this reference. Confirm attachment compatibility before buying any replacement strap; matching a width alone does not guarantee a fit.

Grand Seiko announced the SBGW295 as a 500-piece limited edition and gave an approximate US recommended retail price of $13,800 in 2023. This is a historical launch figure, not a verified current price or estimate of resale value, and it does not establish current availability.
Jaeger-LeCoultre’s US product page identifies Q716848J, but the cited page information does not provide a comparable price. Check with the brands or authorized retailers for current pricing and availability rather than treating the launch-era Grand Seiko figure as a present-day comparison.
Which one should you choose?
- Choose the SBGW295 if you want a round case in titanium, a limited-edition interpretation of Grand Seiko’s 1960 original, and the longer stated reserve. Its historical US launch price and edition size do not tell you what one will cost or whether one is available now.
- Choose Q716848J if you prefer a slim rectangular steel watch and value the Reverso’s swiveling case and customizable reverse. Its cited product page lists a shorter reserve and no accuracy figure.
- Try both if fit is the deciding factor. The round diameter and rectangular length-and-width measurements are not interchangeable fit measures.
Neither is the universal winner: the decision turns on whether you value the SBGW295’s titanium, round vintage-inspired design and longer reserve, or the Q716848J’s rectangular form and reversible case. The cited manufacturer information supports a specification comparison, not a verdict on real-world comfort, durability, timekeeping performance, or relative value.
