What the SLGA023 is—and what this review can establish
The SLGA023 is Grand Seiko’s blue-dial Evolution 9 Spring Drive diver. This is a specification- and design-based review: no wearing, timing, water, lume, or durability test was conducted, so the observations below distinguish the maker’s claims from what the available information supports.
Grand Seiko describes the dial pattern as representing the dynamic undulation of the Kuroshio and Oyashio currents, and the blue dial and bezel as a blue interpretation of its Ushio theme. That is the brand’s design intent, rather than a claim that the dial objectively reproduces a particular sea condition. The company also positions Evolution 9 as an extension of Grand Seiko Style, with an emphasis on legibility, comfort, and beauty.
How large is the Grand Seiko SLGA023?
Grand Seiko lists a 43.8 mm case diameter, 51.5 mm lug-to-lug length, 13.8 mm thickness, and 23 mm band width. The stated weight is 150 g. These are substantial dimensions; compare them with a watch you already know fits you, especially the lug-to-lug measurement. Measurements alone cannot establish whether this watch will feel comfortable on a particular wrist.

What movement is in the SLGA023, and how accurate is it?
The watch uses Grand Seiko Spring Drive Caliber 9RA5, which is self-winding and can also be wound manually. Grand Seiko describes Spring Drive as using a mainspring for energy with an electronic regulator. The stated power reserve is approximately 120 hours, or five days, and the maker’s accuracy rating is ±10 seconds per month—equivalent to ±0.5 second per day when expressed as a daily figure.
Grand Seiko says Caliber 9RA5 is thinner than the earlier 9R65 through its adoption of the Offset Magic Lever. The product information does not provide independent comparative measurements or timing results, so the accuracy and reserve figures should be read as manufacturer specifications, not a guarantee of an individual watch’s performance in every condition.

Is the SLGA023 a real dive watch?
It has the features and stated rating of a dive-oriented watch: Grand Seiko specifies 200 m / 660 ft diver’s water resistance, a unidirectional rotating bezel with ceramic insert, a screw-down crown, and LumiBrite on the hands, indexes, and bezel. Its sapphire crystal has anti-reflective coating on the inner surface.
Those details describe the manufacturer’s specification; they do not constitute an independent test of water resistance, bezel operation, or underwater legibility. Grand Seiko says the diver’s hands and dial are designed with higher contrast and LumiBrite on the hands and indexes to support readability. Actual readability varies with lighting and the viewer.

Materials, clasp, and practical fit details
The case material is high-intensity titanium. The official specification lists an extension clasp with a folding lock; the US product page also describes a secure lock. The 23 mm band width is useful when comparing dimensions, but it does not establish that an arbitrary aftermarket strap or bracelet end link will fit. Attachment geometry and clearance would need to be checked for a specific replacement.

The SLGA023 makes the most sense for someone seeking Grand Seiko’s Spring Drive architecture, a long stated reserve, and a blue titanium diver with a ceramic-insert bezel. Its dimensions and listed price are central buying considerations rather than minor details. Before choosing it over another diver, compare wrist fit, movement and stated accuracy, reserve, water-resistance rating, clasp adjustability, legibility, weight, and current price. The specifications alone do not establish a tested advantage over another watch.
