Gregory Kissling’s vision for Breguet is heritage-led innovation: keep the house’s technical and historical identity, while making changes that bring practical value to clients. In a MONOCHROME interview published on 21 April 2025, he discussed that approach as the brand marked 250 years since its founding in 1775. His comments belong to that moment: his appointment as CEO took effect on 1 October 2024, and this is not an update on who leads Breguet today.
What shaped Kissling’s view of Breguet?
Kissling trained in microtechnology engineering in Le Locle and initially considered robotics. He went on to work as a movement constructor at Cartier, followed by more than 20 years at Omega developing movements and external watch components, known in the industry as habillage. That combination of technical and product-development experience informs his emphasis on both watchmaking substance and the finished watch.
He said he first came to understand Breguet through horological study and through George Daniels, whom he met while Omega was developing the co-axial escapement. Kissling recalled that Daniels admired Breguet and that the house’s work reached him through Daniels’ influence.
What is Kissling’s vision for Breguet?
He describes Breguet’s identity as a meeting of tradition, modernity and technology. In the interview, he pointed to the magnetic pivot and silicon components as examples of technical work associated with chronometry. The objective, he said, is “not innovation for its own sake – rather, innovation that brings value to our clients.”

That principle makes history a starting point, not a reason to freeze the product. Kissling’s stated direction is to build on the work of Abraham-Louis Breguet and the house’s later history, choosing innovations that serve the people who wear its watches. The challenge is to retain Breguet’s place while becoming relevant to a new generation of clients who may not yet know that history.
How does he see Breguet’s collections evolving?
Kissling named five collection families as distinct chapters that should continue to evolve. The interviews provide some useful context for their identities, but not a complete model-by-model comparison.
| Collection family | Historical or intended context established in the interviews |
|---|---|
| Type XX | Linked to aviation. |
| Marine | Linked to Breguet’s naval history; the discussion spans high complications and less complex sporty-chic watches. |
| Classique | Named as one of the house’s principal collection families; no further family-specific comparison is established in the interviews. |
| Tradition | Named as one of the house’s principal collection families; no further family-specific comparison is established in the interviews. |
| Reine de Naples | Named as one of the house’s principal collection families; no further family-specific comparison is established in the interviews. |
For Kissling, the ability to develop and produce movements while also working on movement and external components is part of what makes those collections capable of evolving with a coherent technical identity.
Why does he emphasize people as well as heritage?
Kissling described Breguet’s heritage as both material and human. He cited nearly 400 historical watches in the house’s collection, alongside detailed archives and the skills of its watchmakers, craftspeople, laboratory staff, research and development teams, and designers. The collection figure is his account in the MONOCHROME interview, not an independently audited inventory.

He said the people behind the facilities and tools impressed him most: “The human element is at the heart of Breguet.” That perspective connects the house’s history to its present-day ability to design, develop and make watches.
What did the 250th-anniversary watch say about that vision?
Presented in 2025, the Classique Souscription 2025 was the anniversary program’s opening statement. A May 2025 WorldTempus interview described it as the first of nine launch events planned across the year. Kissling saw the watch as a symbol of renewal: a simple single-hand display, informed by historic Souscription watches, with contemporary design decisions including contoured lugs, a domed crystal and a new gold alloy.
Breguet’s official listing identifies the model as reference 2025BH/28/9W6. The listed specifications are:
- 40 mm case in 18K Breguet Gold
- Manual winding
- 96-hour power reserve
The model’s simplicity is a deliberate contrast with the craft around it. Breguet highlights its enamel dial, secret signature and hand-finished blued hand, while the single hand makes the display unusually spare for a modern wristwatch. The brand’s product page directs prospective buyers to a point of sale for the recommended retail price; it does not establish a price or general availability.

Asked which Breguet watch he would choose, Kissling answered: “One that doesn’t exist yet!” The reply neatly expresses the balance running through his comments: respect for the house’s past, alongside the expectation that its next meaningful watch has still to be made.
