Grönefeld planned 25 examples in tantalum and 188 in stainless steel. Its official tantalum page lists €165,000 excluding tax and shipping and marks the edition sold out; the steel page says “TEMPORARY ORDER STOP.”
What is the Grönefeld 1941 Grönograaf?
Created by brothers Bart and Tim Grönefeld, the 1941 Grönograaf is the Dutch independent watchmaker’s first chronograph. Its design combines a classical column-wheel chronograph with instantaneous jumping minutes and a soft-reset mechanism. The reset is also a visual feature: a speed regulator is visible on the dial at 3 o’clock, where it animates as the chronograph returns to zero.
The model was launched in July 2022, according to its entry in the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) archive. Phillips’ auction catalog describes it as the winner of the 2022 GPHG Best Chronograph prize.

The maker’s specifications and dial description are on its 1941 Grönograaf product page. The GPHG’s listing gives the same case dimensions and water resistance but reports the longer 53-hour power reserve; the available published figures do not establish why they differ.

How the dial and reset mechanism work
The dial arranges its indications around an off-center hours-and-minutes display at 1 o’clock. Small seconds sit at 9, the power-reserve indicator at 11, and the 30-minute chronograph counter at 6. At 3, the exposed return-to-zero speed regulator accompanies the soft-reset mechanism. Grönefeld describes the chronograph minutes as jumping instantaneously rather than advancing continuously.
The dial base is stainless steel, with rhodium-plated subdials and elements. Its surfaces combine frosted and satin-grained finishes, giving the off-center layout distinct textures without changing the watch’s core indications.

Grönefeld’s tantalum product page and stainless-steel product page display those edition details and order notices. Page status can change; contact Grönefeld or an authorized retailer for current availability rather than treating either notice as a live inventory guarantee.
What does the Grönograaf cost?
The official tantalum page displays €165,000 before taxes and shipping. That is the listed asking price for the watch on that page, not a tax-inclusive total. The official steel page does not state a price, so a comparable steel retail figure cannot be established from these sources.

Other published figures use different price bases and should not be treated as equivalent offers. The GPHG entry records CHF 180,500 including VAT for the tantalum model. Phillips reports that a 2022 tantalum example sold at auction for CHF 190,500. The GPHG figure is a reference listing and the Phillips figure is one auction result; neither establishes a current retail or typical resale value.

For a pre-owned example, use a reputable watch specialist or auction house and evaluate the specific watch, its provenance and condition. Phillips’ documented sale provides an example of an auction transaction, not a guide to what another Grönograaf will sell for. The specified buffalo-leather strap measures 20 mm at the lugs and tapers to 18 mm; those measurements alone do not confirm fit for every third-party strap or buckle.
