The H. Moser & Cie. Swiss Alp Watch Final Upgrade looks like a smartwatch at a glance, but it is a hand-wound mechanical watch with no connected functions. Reference 5324-1205 uses a black DLC-coated steel case and a Vantablack dial stripped of logos and indices. Introduced in 2021 as the closing model in the Swiss Alp concept series, it was described by the brand as sold out in 2023.
What the Swiss Alp Watch Final Upgrade is—and is not
The Final Upgrade borrows the rounded rectangular silhouette associated with a smartwatch and turns it into a deliberately ironic mechanical watch. Its functions are conventional: hours and minutes, offset small seconds, and a power-reserve display on the movement side. It has no screen, battery, data connection, tracking, alerts, or software updates. H. Moser & Cie. introduced reference 5324-1205 in 2021 as the last installment in the Swiss Alp Watch concept series, which began in 2016. The brand’s 2023 retrospective says the limited edition had sold out; that does not establish whether pre-owned examples are available today.

Vantablack dial and black-on-black display
The dial is Vantablack, with no logo or hour indices. Blackened leaf-shaped hands indicate the time, while a small seconds disc sits off-centre at six o’clock. The dark treatment is the watch’s defining visual choice, but it also means there are few conventional dial cues to help read the time quickly. The display is intentionally spare rather than designed for the glance-and-notification use of a connected watch. The launch description and technical details appear in H. Moser & Cie.’s 2021 release; the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry’s account also describes the dark dial and hands.
Case dimensions and materials
The black DLC-coated steel case measures 38.2 × 44.0 mm and is 10.5 mm thick. Sapphire crystal protects the dial, and a sapphire display back exposes the movement. Those dimensions describe a rounded rectangular case, so its wrist presence is not directly comparable to that of a 38.2 mm round watch: the 44.0 mm dimension runs across the longer side of the case. The watch is supplied on a hand-stitched black alligator-leather strap with a black DLC-coated steel pin buckle. A replacement strap width is not specified in the published technical details.

HMC 324: hand-wound mechanics and 96-hour reserve
The manufacture HMC 324 is a hand-wound calibre measuring 32.0 × 36.0 mm and 4.8 mm thick. H. Moser & Cie. lists a minimum power reserve of 96 hours, 27 jewels, a frequency of 18,000 vibrations per hour, and hacking seconds, which stop the seconds hand when the crown is pulled for setting. The power-reserve indicator is on the movement side rather than the dial.
The manufacturer’s technical list also specifies Moser teeth for wheels and pinions, an interchangeable Moser escapement, an original Straumann hairspring, a gold escape wheel and pallet fork, and Moser-stripe finishing. These are construction and finishing details; they do not by themselves establish a particular accuracy rating, service interval, or durability result.
Edition, availability, and what a buyer should verify
Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie lists the edition at 50 pieces and water resistance at 30 metres. Its reference entry does not show a publication date. The manufacturer’s launch release does not state either figure, so they are best attributed to the Foundation’s listing rather than treated as manufacturer-quoted launch specifications. The brand’s 2023 statement that the limited edition sold out is about its original edition, not proof that every example has disappeared from the secondary market.

Why it was the final Swiss Alp concept model
The Swiss Alp series used the visual language of connected devices to make a point about traditional watchmaking. The Final Upgrade sharpened that contrast: a smartwatch-shaped case and a stark, screen-like black face surround a mechanical movement that asks its wearer to wind it and offers no digital demands. CEO Edouard Meylan said the design proposal came from a customer and friend of the brand who arrived with a precise design; Moser then developed it in keeping with the collection’s humour and provocation. In its retrospective, the brand summed up the idea with the phrase “Load life, not updates”—a marketing line that captures the concept, not an independent performance assessment.
