The Breitling Super Chronomat B19 44 Perpetual Calendar 140th Anniversary (ref. RB19301A1G1S1) pairs the brand’s first manufacture perpetual-calendar chronograph movement with a 44 mm red-gold case and an unusually open, information-dense dial. It is a substantial, conspicuous watch; Fratello’s Michael Stockton, who tried it on during Geneva Watch Days 2024 and at the Geneva Breitling Boutique, found that its curved case and rubber strap helped it sit comfortably despite the weight.
What the Super Chronomat 140th Anniversary is
This is a limited anniversary version of the Super Chronomat, not a smaller or simplified dress-calendar watch. Breitling’s official product page identifies it as the Super Chronomat B19 44 Perpetual Calendar 140th Anniversary, reference RB19301A1G1S1. It uses an 18k red-gold case, a black rubber strap and a skeletonized dial. Breitling calls the open-worked dial a first for the brand. Breitling’s product listing gives the current UK-market specifications.
The design retains recognizable Chronomat details: four raised rider tabs on the bezel, an onion-shaped crown and a Rouleaux-inspired strap profile, translated here into rubber. Ceramic inserts appear in the bezel. The Chronomat’s history is part of the anniversary framing: Breitling says it launched the model in 1983 as the official watch of Italy’s Frecce Tricolori aerobatics team, before a wider release in 1984. The anniversary also marks Breitling’s 140th year, dating the company’s founding to 1884. Breitling’s anniversary page describes the limited editions and their background.
What B19 adds
Caliber B19 is Breitling’s first manufacture movement to combine a perpetual calendar with a chronograph. Breitling says it is based on its Caliber 01 and was designed and assembled at the Breitling Chronometrie in La Chaux-de-Fonds. The official product specification describes a self-winding mechanical movement with an approximately 96-hour power reserve, a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and 39 jewels. It also lists a chronograph and perpetual calendar with moon phase.

- Powered by light energy, with no battery change required, this model has a 6-month power reserve once fully charged
- Case Diameter: 44.0mm
- The sunray finish gray dial features chronograph and alarm subdials and perpetual calendar functions such as leap year, month, day, and date indicators
- The angular two-tone stainless steel case is paired with an integrated bracelet and includes a sapphire crystal and cabochon crown
- Water-resistant to 10 bar, 100 meters (330 feet)
Breitling says the calendar, with regular wear or winding, can run for nearly a century without major adjustment. That is the manufacturer’s statement, not an independently verified long-term result. Fratello’s review additionally reports COSC chronometer certification, a column wheel, vertical clutch and a 22K red-gold rotor. The rotor engraving depicts the historic Montbrillant Manufactory in La Chaux-de-Fonds; Breitling says the site was the family’s home for three generations and the company’s manufacture for more than 80 years.
Through the sapphire caseback, the engraved rotor gives the anniversary edition a tangible historical detail rather than relying solely on dial text. The movement’s headline, however, is functional: it brings a perpetual calendar into Breitling’s chronograph lineup, with the extra indications sharing space with conventional timekeeping and timing functions.

How to read the dial
The four subdials distribute the calendar and chronograph information around the open-worked center:
- Top: moon-phase display.
- Left: day indication and running seconds.
- Right: date indication and the 30-minute chronograph counter.
- Bottom: month and leap-year indication.
The central hands show the time, while the central chronograph seconds hand records elapsed seconds when the chronograph is running. A tachymeter scale is also included. The combination is capable but visually busy: Fratello describes black subdials set into a lattice-like bridge structure, with applied red-gold markers and luminous material. The open architecture makes the movement part of the visual effect, but readers who prioritize quick, uncluttered time reading may find the density a real trade-off rather than a benefit.

Case dimensions and wrist presence
Breitling lists a 44 mm case diameter, 15.35 mm thickness, 100 m water resistance and 22 mm between the lugs. Its strap is specified as 22/20 mm. Fratello reports a 53.5 mm lug-to-lug measurement. The diameter alone does not convey the footprint: lug-to-lug span, thickness and the weight of the gold watch head all matter when assessing fit, especially under a cuff or during extended wear.
Stockton’s try-on account is specific to his experience with this watch at Geneva Watch Days 2024 and the Geneva Breitling Boutique. He calls it bold and conspicuous, but says the case curves to the wrist and the rubber strap is comfortable and manages the substantial head weight. He also says a smaller size would suit him better, while suggesting a wearer with a somewhat larger wrist might find it wearable; that is one reviewer’s impression, not a fit rule. Trying the 44 mm case, reported 53.5 mm lug-to-lug span and 15.35 mm thickness in person is the soundest way to judge it.

Bezel wording in the specifications
The bezel is a 60-minute timing bezel, but Breitling’s sources do not describe its direction consistently. The official product technical-data field calls it unidirectional and ratcheted; the anniversary description and Fratello’s review describe it as bidirectional. The directionality should therefore be confirmed with Breitling before relying on either description as definitive.

Who should consider it
This model makes most sense for someone who wants the complication and visible mechanical architecture as much as a conventional sports-watch silhouette. Its practical strengths are the combination of perpetual calendar, chronograph and moon phase, the approximately 96-hour reserve specified by Breitling, 100 m water resistance and a strap designed around the gold case’s weight. Its compromises are equally apparent: a large, thick precious-metal case, a highly populated dial and a price positioned at the very high end of the market.
For a buying decision, consider the fit and visual density alongside the functions: whether the subdial layout is legible to you, whether the thickness works with your wardrobe, and whether the precious-metal case and 140-piece edition justify the cost. No independent accuracy test, case weight, service interval or market valuation is established in the cited product and review accounts, so those should not be inferred from the specification sheet or the anniversary positioning.
