The original 2024 Depancel Série-R Tangerine is a 36 × 40 mm, racing-inspired automatic chronograph made in a limited run of 300 pieces. Its blue dial, orange details and compact square case set it apart from the later Black Tangerine edition, which is a separate 100-piece variant. The original launched at €995 (US$995, as reported by Monochrome); those are historical launch prices, not current resale values.
What makes the original Tangerine distinctive?
Depancel gives the Série-R a motorsport character through a square stainless-steel case and a layered blue dial. Contemporary reviews describe vertical grille-like engraving, a recessed center, applied luminous markers and chronograph registers, with orange accents bringing contrast to the blue. The blue perforated leather strap continues the palette with orange stitching.

Monochrome describes the original case as a mix of brushed and polished steel topped by sapphire. Its review highlights the orange stripe, chronograph hands and perforated strap as parts of the racing-inspired design. Fratello’s Jorg Weppelink summed up the high-contrast palette this way: “The combination of blue and orange makes it hard to miss.” Fratello’s 2024 hands-on review and Monochrome’s 2024 coverage document the original edition.
How does the square case wear?
The original measures 36 mm wide, 40 mm long excluding the lugs, 48.5 mm lug to lug and 13.3 mm thick. Because its case spans more of the wrist than a round watch of similar width, the 48.5 mm lug-to-lug figure is useful when assessing fit. The squared silhouette may also feel more prominent than those numbers suggest, particularly for someone accustomed to smaller watches.

Fratello’s Weppelink reported that the watch felt comfortable on his 19 cm wrist, while noting that a larger square watch can wear differently for people used to smaller pieces. That is one reviewer’s experience, not a universal fit guarantee. Checking the lug-to-lug span against a watch that already fits well is a practical way to judge proportions.
What movement is inside?
The original 2024 Tangerine uses the Peacock SL-4801, an automatic chronograph made in China. Fratello and Monochrome describe it as an integrated chronograph with a column wheel and vertical clutch, operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour with a stated 60-hour power reserve.
Fratello’s reviewer characterized the movement finishing as basic and found the start, stop and reset clicks clearly defined. Those are reviewer observations rather than a laboratory assessment.
Original Tangerine and Black Tangerine: different editions
The later Black Tangerine listing on Depancel’s site is not the same watch as the original blue-and-orange 2024 model. Keep their specifications, production quantities and prices separate:

The two reported power-reserve figures belong to different editions and listings; they should not be treated as a confirmed discrepancy for one identical configuration. Depancel describes the Black Tangerine dial as a two-level design with vertical lines reminiscent of vintage racing-car air vents; that is the brand’s wording for the Black Tangerine listing, not a specification of the original’s appearance. The original Tangerine is rated to 50 m / 5 ATM. Fratello cautions that this rating does not make it a watch for underwater adventures. Treat it as a limit on water exposure rather than an invitation to use the chronograph for swimming or diving.
Monochrome reports quick-release spring bars on the original strap, making strap changes more convenient. The original strap is described as 22 mm in the current Black Tangerine listing, but that listing’s width should not be assumed to verify every original-edition attachment detail. If choosing a replacement, check both the lug width and the strap’s end shape and attachment compatibility; width alone does not guarantee a fit.
Price and availability
The original Tangerine was reported at launch in 2024 as a 300-piece limited edition priced at €995 by Fratello and Monochrome; Monochrome also gave a US$995 launch price. Those figures describe the launch, not today’s market. No current resale price or availability for the original blue-and-orange model is established here.
Depancel’s current Black Tangerine page lists a different 100-piece numbered edition at €1,495 and marks it sold out. That page does not establish whether the original Tangerine can currently be found or what it may cost on the secondary market.
