The Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Mariner Memovox pairs a 300 m-rated steel dive-watch design with a mechanical alarm—a rare complication in this category. Its 42 mm case, detailed blue dial and alarm mechanism give it a distinctive proposition, but its 15.63 mm thickness and substantial 2020 launch prices are real tradeoffs. The specifications below are current on Jaeger-LeCoultre’s US product page as of October 7, 2026; the wearing impressions and launch prices are attributed to 2020 coverage.
What the Polaris Mariner Memovox offers
This is the alarm-equipped member of the Polaris Mariner line. Jaeger-LeCoultre’s current US page identifies the watch as reference Q903818J; Fratello’s 2020 review covers Q9038180. Check the reference suffix for the market and listing you are considering rather than assuming the two labels are interchangeable. The brand dates the Memovox Polaris to 1968 and describes the alarm as having originated as a diver-warning function. Jaeger-LeCoultre’s product page
| Specification | Jaeger-LeCoultre listing |
|---|---|
| Case | Stainless steel; 42 mm diameter and 15.63 mm thick |
| Water resistance | 30 bar |
| Movement | Automatic Calibre 956; 271 components, 24 jewels, 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour), and 44-hour power reserve |
| Functions | Alarm, date, seconds, hours and minutes, and rotating inner diving scale |
| Straps | Stainless-steel bracelet fitted; blue rubber strap included on the current US listing, with quick-release interchangeability |
The brand’s October 1, 2020 video describes the watch as water-resistant to 300 m and ISO 6425 certified. Treat that certification statement as the manufacturer’s claim, rather than an independent certification assessment. Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Polaris Mariner Memovox video
How the alarm and diving scale work
The three crowns divide the controls by function. In Fratello’s October 2020 account, the upper crown rotates the central dial so its orange triangle can mark the intended alarm time; the middle crown operates the internal diving scale; and the lower crown sets the time. Fratello also notes that an orange warning indicator appears when crowns are unscrewed. Fratello’s hands-on review

The alarm is more than a dial complication. The sapphire display back exposes the hammer in operation. Fratello reports that in this version the gong is fixed to the side of the case, rather than the caseback, allowing the sapphire back and visible hammer arrangement. That construction detail is Fratello’s report; it is not presented here as the result of an independent teardown.
Is it a real dive watch?
It has meaningful stated dive-watch credentials: a rotating internal diving scale, screw-down crown controls described in the review, and 30-bar water resistance on the manufacturer’s product page. Jaeger-LeCoultre’s 2020 video additionally calls it 300 m and ISO 6425 certified. The 30-bar figure is the current specification; the 300 m and certification wording is attributable to the brand’s video.

- Gold tone stainless steel case 48mm diameter x 16.5mm thick; Silver dial; Luminous hands and hour markers
- Japanese quartz movement, VD53 Caliber; Assembled in Japan; SR920SW battery included; Watch weight: 190 grams
- White silicone and gold tone stainless steel band, 220mm L x 26mm W; Buckle clasp
- Flame Fusion crystal; Push/pull crown; Uni-directional stainless steel bezel with black top bezel ring; Functional Subdials: 60min, 60sec, 24hr; 100 meter water resistant: Suitable for recreational surfing, swimming, snorkeling, sailing and water sports. Not suitable for diving.
These specifications do not remove the ordinary need to follow the manufacturer’s use and maintenance guidance for a mechanical watch. A water-resistance rating describes a stated product specification, not a guarantee that an individual watch remains water-tight regardless of age, condition, or crown position.
Dial, bracelet and wrist presence
The blue dial combines multiple finishes with orange accents that echo the alarm marker and warning details. The watch is supplied on a steel bracelet, and the current US listing includes a blue rubber strap with a quick-release system. Time+Tide’s launch coverage also singled out the blue dial and framed the watch as a distinctive luxury dive-watch offering; that is the publication’s design judgment, not evidence of consensus. Robert-Jan Broer of Fratello praised the dial, orange details, bracelet and finishing, and judged the 42 mm diameter wearable despite the 15.63 mm height. Those are one reviewer’s impressions, not a universal fit assessment. The thickness is the more consequential figure for anyone who wears close-fitting cuffs or prefers a low-profile diver.
What did it cost at launch?
The published figures below are launch-era regional prices from 2020 coverage, not current asking prices. VAT treatment is stated where the source specifies it; currencies and regions should not be compared as if they were a single tax-adjusted price list.

Broer considered the €17,545 including VAT price a substantial hurdle in his 2020 review. Dive into Watches’ October 2020 report These historical figures do not establish the watch’s current retail price or secondary-market value.

The Mariner Memovox makes most sense for someone who specifically wants a mechanical alarm integrated into a serious-looking dive watch, and values the dial and visible alarm mechanism enough to accept a thick case and luxury-watch launch pricing. If the alarm is not a draw, its core proposition is harder to justify on the evidence here: this review does not establish a full specification comparison with the Polaris Mariner Date or competing divers. Buyers weighing those models should check the exact reference, alarm presence, dimensions, water-resistance claim, controls, strap configuration and dated price for each listing rather than infer equivalence from the family name.
