It is a specific black-dial version of the watch, not a new 2026 release. Kenyon’s impressions below are his observations from that hands-on review; Longines’ current listing for reference L4.795.4.58.0 provides a separate, updated specification snapshot.
What the black-and-gold design looks like
In his 2020 Time+Tide review, Nick Kenyon describes a glossy black dial set against pink-gold-tone hands and applied hour markers. The winged-hourglass logo sits above the dial, while a date window and small seconds occupy the 6 o’clock position. The contrast gives the watch a dressy, vintage-leaning character without relying on a light dial.

Kenyon also notes a polished steel case and a black leather strap with contrasting white stitching, secured by a steel pin buckle. The glossy dial, warm-toned details and stitched strap form a coordinated look; the gold tone is described as a color treatment, not as solid-gold hands or markers.
Case size and wrist presence
Kenyon reports a 38.5 mm case diameter and a height of 10 mm. He describes the lugs as long and pronounced, so the diameter alone may not convey how the watch wears: lug length can make a case feel more expansive across the wrist. Those fit and wrist-presence comments are the reviewer’s assessment, not measurements from a new test.

- Automatic L888 movement, hours, minutes, seconds and date Transparent case back with sapphire crystal
- Stainless steel with triple safety folding clasp and push-piece opening mechanism
- 5 Year International Warranty
Longines’ current US product listing for reference L4.795.4.58.0 gives a 38.50 mm diameter. It does not establish the case height in the available listing details. If fit is decisive, try the exact reference on and check the dimensions shown by the Longines page for your market.
Specifications: the 2020 review and current listing differ on reserve
The two sources report different power-reserve figures. Kenyon’s 2020 article identifies automatic caliber L615, operating at 4 Hz with a 42-hour reserve. Longines’ current US listing for L4.795.4.58.0 states up to 50 hours and 28,800 vibrations per hour, but the surfaced listing text does not identify the caliber. The available information does not explain the difference, so the figures should remain tied to their respective sources rather than treated as interchangeable.

The Flagship name and caravel medallion
Longines dates the Flagship line to the late 1950s and calls it one of its earliest collections. The brand explains the name by reference to a commander-in-chief’s vessel. On the watch’s solid caseback, Kenyon describes a blue-and-gold merchant-ship medallion; Longines identifies the emblem as a hand-painted enamel caravel on an 18-karat gold medallion. Those descriptions come from the reviewer and the brand respectively.

The caseback gives the watch a heritage detail that is not visible during ordinary wear, while the black dial and warm-toned markers carry most of the look from the front.

Price references are time- and market-specific. Kenyon gave an Australian recommended retail price of A$2,350 in 2020. Longines’ US product page displayed US$2,150 when accessed for this article in 2026; that displayed price is not a guarantee of today’s price. The black-dial date-and-small-seconds watch should not be confused with later Flagship Heritage releases. In a 3 October 2024 Media Center announcement, Longines introduced three versions in Havana beige, anthracite and green, each with a moonphase complication. They are distinct variants, not color options established for the black-dial reference described here.
