Patek Philippe currently lists two versions, the white-gold 5524G-010 and rose-gold 5524R-001. Their published functional specifications are substantially alike; the principal documented differences are their case metals, dials and straps.
How the Ref. 5524 Travel Time display works
The watch keeps home and local time visible together. On both current versions, the skeletonized hour hand indicates home time and the solid hour hand indicates local time. Separate day/night apertures serve each time zone, so you can distinguish, for example, 10 a.m. from 10 p.m. at home as well as locally. The date is coupled to local time. Patek Philippe’s 5524G-010 page and 5524R-001 page also list sweep seconds.
How to set the second time zone
Patek Philippe’s 2015 release describes the original 5524G’s local-time adjustment: case pushers move the local-time hand forward or backward in one-hour increments. The release says a quarter-turn safety lock helps prevent unintended changes and an isolator disconnects the time-zone mechanism from the going train during adjustment. These are details from the original-model announcement, not a confirmation of the precise adjustment procedure on every later variant. Consult the instructions for the specific watch before operating its controls.
The Travel Time mechanism has a longer history than the 5524. In its Baselworld 2015 release, Patek Philippe said its first patent for the mechanism was granted in 1959 and that a further patent followed in 1996.

These values are from the current 5524G-010 and 5524R-001 manufacturer listings, accessed October 8, 2026. Both pages also list a sapphire crystal case back, 21K gold central rotor, Gyromax balance, Spiromax balance spring, 28,800 semi-oscillations per hour (4 Hz), and the Patek Philippe Seal.
On the specifications published for these two current references, the choice is primarily between their distinct visual treatments rather than a stated difference in the Travel Time functions or core listed dimensions. The manufacturer’s collection listing includes both references, but that does not establish stock at an authorized dealer or availability in a particular region. Patek Philippe’s Complications collection is the current listing.

Is the Patek Philippe 5524 water resistant?
Both current product pages state water resistance of 30 m. That is the manufacturer’s listed rating; it should not be read as a recommendation for swimming or diving. Follow Patek Philippe’s care and operating guidance for the individual watch, and have its water resistance checked as appropriate for its condition and service history.
What changed from the original 2015 5524G?
The 2015 Baselworld announcement describes the original 5524G, not the current references’ full specification set. It lists a white-gold 42 mm case, 21 mm lug width, caliber CH 324 S C FUS, 294 parts, 29 jewels, and a 35–45-hour power reserve. The current 5524G-010 and 5524R-001 product pages instead list caliber 26-330 S C FUS and 290 parts. Those are distinct published specifications and should not be conflated.

The 2015 release also stated the Patek Philippe Seal’s rate-accuracy tolerance as -3/+2 seconds per day. This is the stated tolerance in that release, not an independent measurement of a 5524’s accuracy in use or a substitute for current model-specific documentation.
