The Nivada Grenchen Chronosport Mecaquartz Salmon is a 38 mm steel chronograph, reference 77002Q45, with a textured black dial, salmon-colored subdial details and a Seiko VK67 Meca-Quartz movement. It pairs quartz timekeeping with a mechanical chronograph module; it is not the separate automatic Chronosport powered by a Valjoux 7750.
What the Salmon Mecaquartz is
Nivada identifies this version as the Chronograph Mecaquartz Salmon. Fratello’s May 14, 2025 hands-on review gives the reference as 77002Q45 and describes it as the limited salmon-dial version of the Mecaquartz Chronosport. The brand describes the dial as matte black with a subtle texture, salmon Super-LumiNova details on the subdials and printed luminous elements. The colored counters provide the defining contrast against the dark dial.
Despite the Chronosport name, this is not the mechanical Chronosport introduced by Nivada as a family design inspired by a late-1970s prototype. That separate watch uses an automatic Valjoux 7750, while the Salmon Mecaquartz uses the VK67. The distinction matters: the Salmon offers quartz timekeeping and chronograph operation rather than the automatic movement of its mechanical relative.
Case dimensions and wrist fit
Nivada’s official specification lists a 38 mm diameter, 44.3 mm lug-to-lug, and 10.8 mm thickness without the glass. Fratello reports 13.3 mm including the crystal. Those thickness figures use different measurement conventions, rather than describing a discrepancy in the same measurement. The case is 316L stainless steel with polished and brushed finishing, and the crystal is double-domed sapphire.

The 44.3 mm lug-to-lug measurement gives a useful sense of how far the case spans across the wrist, while the 38 mm diameter keeps the watch in a relatively compact format for a chronograph. Actual fit will still depend on wrist shape and the chosen strap or bracelet.
Dial layout, bezel and chronograph functions
The VK67 setup includes running small seconds, a 60-second chronograph, 30-minute and 12-hour chronograph counters, and a date. Fratello describes the layout as running seconds at six, a 12-hour counter at nine, and a 60-minute counter at twelve. The date sits at three o’clock; reviewer Balazs Ferenczi noted that it counterbalances the salmon subdials.

The watch also has a tachymeter scale and a bidirectional bezel. In his review, Ferenczi found the tachymeter difficult to read through the double-domed crystal. He also described the bezel on the early prototype he handled as loose. These are observations about that reviewer’s sample, not evidence that every production watch has the same issues.
Movement, accuracy and water resistance
The Seiko VK67 Meca-Quartz combines quartz regulation for timekeeping with a mechanical chronograph module. It offers the feel of a chronograph operated through a mechanical module without making this a fully mechanical watch.

Nivada rates the watch at approximately three years of battery life and accuracy of ±20 seconds per month. The brand also specifies 20 ATM water resistance. These are manufacturer specifications, not results of independent testing. Follow the watch’s care guidance and have its water resistance checked as appropriate, particularly before exposing an older or serviced watch to water.
Bracelet and strap options
The official stated band width is 20 mm, so compatible 20 mm watch straps are the relevant size to look for. Fratello discusses the watch on a steel bracelet and mentions leather and Tropic-style rubber alternatives. The choice changes the character of the watch as well as its feel on the wrist: steel makes for a more integrated, sportier look, while leather or rubber shifts it toward a different everyday or warm-weather use.

Availability and historical pricing
Fratello’s May 14, 2025 review said the Salmon version was no longer available at the time of publication. That is a dated availability statement, not a live stock check. The same review listed historical prices of €770 / US$700 on bracelet and €550 / US$500 on a strap. These are review-era figures, not current offers; verify availability, seller status and price directly before buying.

The comparison is useful because the shared Chronosport name can obscure a substantial movement difference. The Salmon is the compact Meca-Quartz variant; specifications or observations about the automatic model should not be applied to it.
