The Oris Big Crown ProPilot Calibre 111 pairs a hand-wound movement with a 240-hour (10-day) power reserve, a visible reserve indicator and a large 44 mm steel case. Its long reserve means fewer winding sessions than a shorter-reserve manual watch, but filling it from empty can take time: in Robert-Jan Broer’s 2018 review, his sample required 217 crown turns. The model’s dense dial and substantial wrist presence will appeal to some buyers and feel like drawbacks to others.
What the Calibre 111 offers
Oris specifies a hand-wound Calibre 111 with a 240-hour reserve, 21,600 A/h (3 Hz) frequency and 34 mm movement. Functions include central hours and minutes, subsidiary seconds at 9 o’clock, a non-linear power-reserve indicator at 3 o’clock, a date window and date corrector, a fine timing device and stop-seconds. These specifications appear on Oris’s US product pages; the pages do not state when the specifications were first published.
The extended reserve is the watch’s defining practical trade-off. It lets a fully wound watch run for up to ten days according to Oris, while the indicator gives a visual guide to remaining reserve. The movement is still manual: the owner must wind it rather than rely on wrist motion to replenish it.
How it wears and reads
Oris lists a 44 mm multi-piece stainless-steel case, 10 bar water resistance, and 22 mm interhorn width. The crystal is domed sapphire with anti-reflective coating on the inside; the see-through caseback is mineral glass. These are substantial dimensions and materials to consider against your wrist and preferences, rather than a guarantee of how the watch will fit every wearer.

#1 Best Overall
- Power Reserve indicator sub-dial at the 3 o'clock position.
- Displays the date at the 9 o'clock position.
- Oris in-house manufactured Caliber 111, beats at 21,600 vph, contains 40 Jewels & has an impressive 10 day (240 hour) power reserve.
In his January 24, 2018 hands-on review, Robert-Jan Broer described the watch as having strong wrist presence. He found the large numerals and subdials readable despite the dial’s many elements. He thought the date aperture looked cramped, though it did not bother him after wearing the watch. Those are impressions from his sample, not universal fit or legibility findings.
Broer also noted that the movement is largely covered by bridges, with the large barrel visible through the mineral-glass back. He praised the build and lume in his conclusion. Buyers who value a view of the movement should bear in mind that the display back does not expose all of its components.

Winding: long reserve, deliberate routine
Broer reported 217 crown turns to take his sample from empty to the 10-day indication. That is a reviewer observation from one watch, not an Oris specification or a guaranteed count for every example. He regarded the winding session as long, balanced by the extended time before the next full wind would be needed.
Whether that exchange works for you depends on how you use a manual watch. If you wear it regularly and prefer infrequent winding, the reserve may be useful. If you rotate watches and often let this one run down, the initial winding session may feel like a chore. The reserve indicator helps you see where the watch stands, but it does not remove the need to wind it.

Reference and configuration differences
The two US reference pages documented by Oris show different dial and strap combinations. Check the full reference before buying: “Calibre 111” alone does not identify the dial or whether the watch comes on a bracelet or leather.

Who should consider it?
- Consider it if you want a manually wound pilot-style watch, value a long reserve and visible reserve indication, and are comfortable with a 44 mm case and a busy dial.
- Think carefully if you prefer a compact watch, a simpler dial, automatic winding, or short winding sessions when the watch has stopped.
- Before ordering confirm the reference and whether it is the blue-dial bracelet or grey-dial leather configuration; the model name by itself is not enough.
