In Gerard Nijenbrinks’s September 2024 Fratello hands-on review, Shark Skin is the more restrained option, while Depth Rainbow uses bright colors intended to suggest approximate underwater depth. The reviewer wore a Shark Skin prototype for almost two weeks, but did not take it diving, so this is a wrist-wear impression—not a firsthand test of underwater performance.
What differs between Shark Skin and Depth Rainbow?
The distinction described in the 2024 review is principally appearance, not a different movement or case platform. Shark Skin has a comparatively subdued look; Depth Rainbow’s vivid color treatment is intended to indicate approximate depth underwater. That description concerns the design. The available sources do not establish that the colors function as a calibrated depth gauge.
| Variant | Look and stated design idea | What the hands-on evidence covers |
|---|---|---|
| Shark Skin | More restrained-looking, according to Fratello’s September 2024 review. | The reviewer wore a working prototype for almost two weeks, on its optional titanium bracelet. |
| Depth Rainbow | Bright colors described by the reviewer as indicating approximate depth underwater. | The review discusses the variant, but its extended wear account concerns Shark Skin; it does not report a dive test. |
For a practical choice, consider how much color you want on the dial and whether you prefer a watch that attracts less attention. The review does not establish a difference in functionality between these two variants.
Is the Frog300 comfortable to wear?
The Shark Skin reviewer called wearing the watch refreshing, but fit is likely to depend on wrist shape and tolerance for a broad, substantial case. Fratello reports a 45 mm diameter and 14.8 mm case thickness for its 2024 prototype, increasing to 16.5 mm including the rear ID+SYS disc. It also reports a weight of 160 g with the titanium bracelet and 44 mm between strap-mounting screws. These are figures reported in that review, not measurements made here.

- Men's Watches: The striking chronograph watch has tremendous wrist presence. Wears exceptionally well for formal events thanks to its fashionable (yet modern) looks. Swap in a colored strap and you can rock this piece during casual and sporty occasions
The asymmetrical titanium case places its crowns away from the wrist joint, a design intended to help keep them from digging into the wrist. The included titanium bracelet on the reviewed prototype was sized for an 18 cm wrist; its clasp has a dive extension and fine adjustment. The reviewer received rubber-strap parts but did not wear the watch on rubber, so the hands-on account does not establish how that configuration feels.
Later published specifications use different fit measurements. Dive Into Watches reported a 52 mm lug-to-lug dimension, 14.79 mm height and 144.7 g weight with rubber strap in 2025. The 52 mm lug-to-lug figure and Fratello’s 44 mm screw-to-screw distance describe different measurements and should not be treated as a direct discrepancy. OX’s current Frog300 GMT page gives 45 mm diameter and 44 mm lug-to-lug. Check the precise reference and bracelet or strap configuration before buying, since figures and listings can vary by version.

How the bezel and GMT function work
Internal dive-time bezel
The dive-time bezel sits inside the crystal and turns via its own dedicated crown; it is unidirectional. That differs from the familiar external rotating bezel on many dive watches. Fratello’s reviewer found the markings took some getting used to, so prospective buyers should study the layout rather than assume it reads like a conventional bezel.
Second time zone
The 2024 review identifies the prototype’s automatic movement as a Miyota 9075 and describes an independently adjustable second time zone. OX’s current product range instead names a customized Miyota 9075M, with a stated frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) and a 42-hour power reserve. Those are the respective sources’ movement names; the article’s 2024 designation and OX’s current designation should not be silently conflated.

Case, water-resistance claims and ID+SYS
Fratello describes the case as sandblasted Grade 3i titanium and reports that OX described its manufacture as involving 19 machining operations. The design is intentionally substantial and asymmetrical, with a helium escape valve. Dive Into Watches reported a stated 300 m water resistance and ISO 6425 compliance in 2025. The sources available here do not include a certification document or underlying test record, so those should be understood as published specifications and reported compliance, not independently verified test results.
ID+SYS is a removable NFC disc on the case back, presented as an emergency-information system. Fratello says owners can store voluntary information on it and that a phone must be brought close to the disc after the watch is removed. OX’s current description says the system requires no battery or Wi-Fi. These are product descriptions; the available sources provide no evidence of rescue outcomes or a measured safety benefit.

Price and availability depend on date and configuration
Prices have changed across the cited listings. Fratello’s September 2024 review stated US$1,430 on rubber and US$1,730 on a titanium bracelet. OX’s official range, accessed October 4, 2026, lists standard Frog300 GMT variants at US$1,720. These are not like-for-like current quotes for every Shark Skin or Depth Rainbow configuration; confirm the selected reference, included strap or bracelet and live price with OX before ordering.
Who should consider each version?
- Choose Shark Skin if you want the more restrained appearance described in the review and like the idea of the titanium-bracelet setup the reviewer wore.
- Consider Depth Rainbow if its vivid, depth-inspired color treatment is the reason you are drawn to the Frog300. Do not treat that color scheme as a calibrated depth readout on the evidence available.
- Try the case on if possible if you are unsure about its proportions. The reported dimensions and bracelet weight describe a large, substantial watch, and wrist comfort is personal.
- Buy it as a dive watch only with the right expectations: the published water-resistance and standards claims are specifications, while the cited hands-on review did not include a dive.
Gerard Nijenbrinks summed up his reaction to the watch: “How refreshing it is to see and wear the Frog300 from Oceanix (or OX for short).” That is a reviewer’s impression of an unusual design, not a comparative comfort or performance finding.
