The Roger Dubuis Excalibur Monotourbillon Titanium, reference DBEX1112, pairs an openworked, hand-wound flying tourbillon with a 42 mm Grade 5 titanium case and bracelet. Its appeal is unusually direct: the movement is the visual center of the watch, while the monochrome metalwork gives the architecture a more restrained frame. Roger Dubuis lists 28 pieces; prices published in 2024 were around CHF 147,500, not current quotes.
What the DBEX1112 is
This Excalibur is a manually wound skeleton watch built around the RD512 Skeleton Flying Monotourbillon movement. Roger Dubuis’ current product page specifies a titanium case, bezel and crown, a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, and a sapphire display back. The 42 mm case is paired with a Grade 5 titanium bracelet, satin-brushed with polished bevels and fitted with the brand’s Quick Release System.
The result is not simply a conventional watch rendered in a lighter-looking metal. Openworked bridges expose much of the mechanism from the dial side, and the flying tourbillon at 7 o’clock provides a conspicuous point of motion. The gray-on-gray treatment makes the movement and case read as one continuous composition rather than setting the complication against a contrasting dial.
How the flying tourbillon shapes the display
Roger Dubuis places the flying tourbillon at 7 o’clock and describes that position as emblematic of the Maison. Unlike a tourbillon with an upper bridge visibly spanning the rotating cage, a flying tourbillon is supported from below, leaving its upper side more open to view. Here, the tourbillon also serves as the small-seconds display, according to Fratello.

The brand describes the cage as having a titanium lower component and a non-magnetic cobalt-chrome upper cage inspired by the Celtic Cross. MONOCHROME reported in 2024 that the assembly has 63 components and cited the brand’s claim of a 16% weight reduction from the upper-cage material. That figure concerns the upper cage, not the complete watch; the sources consulted do not give a total watch weight.
Roger Dubuis lists 194 components and 19 jewels for the movement, which runs at 21,600 vibrations per hour and has a 72-hour power reserve. The brand calls it RD512; Fratello identifies it as RD512SQ. The movement measures 6.9 mm thick, per the official specification. It provides hours and minutes alongside the tourbillon-mounted small seconds.

Case size, finishing and wearing context
The official listing gives the case diameter as 42 mm and water resistance as 10 bar (100 m). Fratello reports a thickness of 12.62 mm and a 52 mm lug-to-lug measurement. Those latter dimensions help explain why the watch’s nominal diameter alone does not describe its full wrist presence: the length across the lugs is a relevant consideration, particularly on smaller wrists.
Fratello’s hands-on account describes the titanium case and bracelet as light on the wrist and notes the contrast between satin-brushed surfaces and polished bevels. That is the publication’s wearing impression, not a measured weight or a universal fit guarantee. The complete watch’s weight is not stated in the cited coverage. Roger Dubuis also calls the watch ergonomic, but that is the brand’s description rather than an independent comfort assessment.

MONOCHROME characterizes the design as bold and ultra-modern, while calling the case relatively modest by Roger Dubuis standards. Its writer also found the skeletonized display legible. These are useful observations for a watch whose exposed structure might otherwise suggest that reading the time is secondary; whether the open architecture feels clear or visually busy remains a matter of preference.
The official page cites Poinçon de Genève certification and says the watch uses 16 hand-finishing techniques. Roger Dubuis presents the watch as a pure expression of its skeletonized approach; that characterization is brand copy, not an independent evaluation of the finishing.

Limited production and published prices
Roger Dubuis’ current product page states that production is limited to 28 pieces. The brand page does not establish how many remain available, and current stock or allocation could not be confirmed from the cited coverage.

For a present-day availability or price inquiry, the official product page provides a concierge and interest-registration route. A 2024 price should be treated as historical reporting rather than a quote, and a limited-edition count does not by itself establish that a piece is available.

How it compares with the Excalibur Monobalancier Titanium
Fratello’s 2024 comparison is useful because the Excalibur Monobalancier Titanium shares the 42 mm titanium case and bracelet design but makes a different movement choice. The Monotourbillon uses the RD512SQ flying-tourbillon architecture; Fratello describes the Monobalancier as using a conventional regulating organ and micro-rotor arrangement.

The choice is therefore less about which watch is objectively better and more about whether the tourbillon’s movement architecture and animated display justify the substantially higher 2024 reported price for you. The Monobalancier retains the titanium design language with a different movement and a lower source-reported price. Neither the tourbillon nor the openworked display establishes a practical advantage in everyday timekeeping from the cited specifications.
