The Seiko Prospex SNE518P pairs a blue Save the Ocean dial with the chunky, shrouded silhouette of Seiko’s Tuna-style divers. Seiko specifies a solar V157 movement, a 46.7 mm case and 200 m diver’s water resistance. In Felix Scholz’s 2018 hands-on review, the short-lugged, puck-like design helped the large watch wear better than its dimensions suggest—but its size and bold shape will not suit every wrist.
What is the SNE518P?
The SNE518P is a Save the Ocean version of Seiko’s Prospex solar diver, styled after the brand’s “Tuna” family. The watch combines a graduated blue dial with a matte black protective shroud. Its distinctive, can-like outline is the source of the Tuna nickname; it is a design cue, not a separate movement or water-resistance category.
The look is deliberately substantial. Scholz describes the SNE518P as a puck-like watch whose short lugs moderate its presence on the wrist. That is the review author’s impression, not a fit guarantee: the official case diameter is 46.7 mm, so checking the dimensions against a watch you already find comfortable is sensible.
How it wears and what the dimensions mean
Seiko lists a 46.7 mm case diameter, 12.4 mm thickness and 22 mm distance between the lugs. The diameter is the standout figure, but it does not tell the whole fit story: lug shape and how the case sits across a particular wrist also matter. The hands-on review’s favorable impression of the short lugs is useful context, but individual fit varies.

The 22 mm lug distance gives you a standard measurement to use when looking for another strap. Seiko lists the supplied band as silicone. Before buying a replacement, check its width and hardware against the watch; a matching width alone does not establish that every strap will fit exactly as intended.
Movement, charging and accuracy
Seiko specifies its V157 solar movement for the SNE518. The manufacturer states an accuracy of ±15 seconds per month and approximately ten months of operation when fully charged. These are Seiko specifications, not results measured by the review author. The ten-month figure describes operation from a full charge; it should not be read as a promise that every wearer will get the same interval in all conditions.

Solar power means the watch relies on light to charge its energy storage rather than routine battery replacement. Seiko’s specification page provides the movement figures and model details: Seiko Prospex SNE518 specifications.
What makes it a diver?
Seiko rates the SNE518 for 200 m diver’s water resistance and lists a unidirectional rotating bezel, screw-down crown and screw case back. LumiBrite is specified on the hands and indexes. These are manufacturer-listed features; they are not a report of an independent pressure test or a dive with this particular watch.

The case pairs stainless steel with plastic, while the crystal is Hardlex and the band is silicone, according to Seiko. Hardlex is Seiko’s crystal material; the specification does not identify the watch as having sapphire crystal.
Why the Tuna design?
The SNE518’s shroud and rounded case draw on Seiko’s Tuna lineage. Scholz’s hands-on article traces the family to the 1975 Seiko 6159-7010, developed after a Japanese saturation diver’s request in 1968. That historical account, including the article’s claim that the 1975 model had “23 world firsts,” is attributable to the review rather than independently established here.

The Save the Ocean treatment gives that robust outline a more expressive dial: the blue surface is graduated, set against the matte black shroud.
