Their faceted-looking dial designs invite comparison with Seiko’s Sharp Edged aesthetic, but these references should not be mistaken for members of Seiko’s separately named Sharp Edged Series.
Two Presage dials, two very different moods
The distinction is immediately visible: the SRPF37J is pale and warm, while the SRPF39J uses a much darker, more dramatic palette. Both rely on geometric dial relief to give the surface depth rather than treating color as a flat finish.

SEIKO SRPE15 Automatic Watch for Men - Presage Collection - Jewel Green Patterned Dial with Date... | $398.94 | Buy on Amazon |
SRPF37J: cream with a graduated finish
In Thor Svaboe’s November 2020 hands-on review, the SRPF37J has a cream-to-beige dial: brighter at the center and increasingly creamy toward the rehaut. Its geometric diamond relief, gold-colored indices and Arabic numerals, and sword hands give the watch a dressier, warmer character. Time+Tide’s hands-on review.
SRPF39J: dark bronze and black
The SRPF39J is more subdued at a glance, with a near-black outer area around the silver minute track and a dark bronze-brown center. Its geometric pattern becomes apparent as light moves across the dial, adding texture without the SRPF37J’s bright, contrasting palette. The color and surface descriptions are the review author’s observations, not manufacturer color specifications. Time+Tide’s review.

How “Sharp Edge” fits—and where it does not
The title’s Sharp Edge comparison is about visual character, not model-family membership. The SRPF37J and SRPF39J have round cases; the manufacturer’s separately named Sharp Edged Series is presented as a distinct line with angular cases and asanoha, or hemp-leaf, patterned dials. The cited Seiko page covers newer Sharp Edged models and does not identify either SRPF reference as part of that series.
It is reasonable to compare the Presage pair’s crisp geometric relief with the broader appeal of sharply defined dial patterns. It would be inaccurate, on the available model-specific evidence, to call either watch a Sharp Edged Series model.
Milanese mesh changes the wearing experience
Both watches were reviewed on Milanese mesh, with quick-release leather straps also supplied, according to Svaboe. He described the mesh as “a much softer feel than a normal bracelet.” That is his subjective hands-on impression, rather than the result of a controlled comfort comparison. A mesh bracelet gives the patterned dial a refined, jewelry-like presentation; the leather option offers a more conventional alternative. Time+Tide’s review.
Specifications, with regional differences kept clear
Published measurements vary slightly by source and market. The figures below preserve those distinctions rather than combining them into a single specification.

The difference between the official regional diameter listings—38.5 mm for the Malaysian SRPF37J1 and 38 mm for the Philippines-listed SRPF39J1—is a source and market distinction, not a reason to assume the cases are different or to average the numbers. The review’s measurements are another published account. Check the exact reference and local listing if a millimeter matters to fit.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to know about the 4R35
Both watches use Seiko’s 4R35 automatic movement. The official regional listings give an approximately 41-hour power reserve; the SRPF39J1 listing also specifies manual winding and 23 jewels. Svaboe repeats an accuracy range of +45/-25 seconds per day for the movement and says his own watches often perform better. That is not a guarantee for these watches or a measured result from the reviewed examples. Time+Tide’s review.
Availability, price, and buying checks
These are older references, so an old published price is not a reliable guide to what a watch costs now. The Malaysian Seiko Boutique page listed the SRPF37J1 at RM 1,965 and out of stock when accessed; the Philippines official store listed the SRPF39J1 as sold out at ₱30,080 when accessed. Those are regional listing snapshots, not current offers or evidence of present inventory. Malaysia listing; Philippines listing.
The review reported an Australian price of A$750 in November 2020. That historical Australian figure should not be treated as a current market value. Time+Tide, 29 November 2020.
Before buying, confirm the precise reference suffix (such as J1), seller, condition, what straps are included, and the warranty that applies where you will purchase. Seiko Malaysia states that the worldwide warranty for eligible Seiko watches bought from an authorized retailer increased to three years from October 1, 2024, covering the watch head and metal bracelet subject to exclusions. Warranty terms are regional and eligibility matters, so use the policy for your purchase location rather than assuming the Malaysian notice applies everywhere. Seiko Boutique Malaysia listing and warranty notice.
If replacing the bracelet, the Philippines SRPF39J1 listing gives a 20 mm lug distance. That alone does not establish that every 20 mm strap will fit or attach correctly; check the end shape and whether the strap uses the relevant spring-bar or quick-release arrangement for your particular watch.
