What makes the SNE566P a “root beer” diver?
The nickname refers to the SNE566P’s brown-and-gold styling, not to a separate Seiko model or a technical feature. In its September 4, 2020 hands-on review, Fergus Nash of Time+Tide Watches uses “Root Beer” for the look. That description is the reviewer’s characterization of the color scheme.
The watch was presented as a Prospex diver with a stainless-steel case and a bracelet, plus a rubber strap included in the package described by the review. The brown-and-gold palette gives it a more distinctive appearance than a conventional all-black diver, though that is a matter of taste rather than a measurable specification.
How big is the SNE566P, and how might it wear?
Time+Tide reports a 43.5 mm case diameter, approximately 50 mm lug-to-lug, and 12 mm thickness. Nash says it wears large, while also describing the case as relatively slim for a diver. What movement does it use?
Time+Tide identifies the SNE566P’s movement as Seiko’s V157 solar caliber and reports accuracy within ±15 seconds per month. That accuracy figure is the review’s stated specification; it is not a result from a test conducted for this article. The solar movement is the defining practical difference from a mechanical diver, but the available model-specific source does not provide additional operating or charging measurements.
What straps fit the SNE566P?
The 2020 review reports a 20 mm strap width, a push-pin bracelet and an included rubber strap. That width is a starting point when looking at replacements, not proof that every third-party 20 mm strap or bracelet will fit correctly. Check the specific strap’s end shape, attachment method and clearance against the watch before buying.

Was the SNE566P limited edition, and what did it cost?
At launch, Time+Tide reported an edition of 1,500 pieces, distribution through Australian boutiques and authorized dealers, and an original recommended retail price of AUD 995. These are launch-era claims from 2020 and apply to that reported Australian context; they do not establish present-day stock, resale value, or a current price in Australia or elsewhere.
The source set does not establish that the SNE566P is currently available to buy. Seiko’s official page for the related SNE556 concerns a different reference, so its specifications should not be attributed to the SNE566P.

Who is the SNE566P for?
Based on the reported dimensions and features, it may suit someone seeking a large, solar-powered diver with a more unusual brown-and-gold color scheme, a 200 m water-resistance rating, and both bracelet and rubber-strap options. A buyer who wants a smaller watch, requires independently verified specifications, or needs confirmed current stock should verify those points before committing. The review’s assessment that it wears large is subjective, so wrist fit is best judged against the dimensions and, where possible, by trying the watch on.
