The Laventure Marine Type 3 pairs a compact 38 mm Grade 23 titanium case with a wide fixed bezel, a tall domed Plexiglas crystal and a COSC-certified automatic movement. Its proportions and full-lume dial give this limited-production watch a distinctive marine-instrument character, but the 2.3 mm crystal profile and lack of a bracelet option are real trade-offs. Launch coverage in 2025 listed it at CHF 4,200 excluding taxes; Laventure’s official site currently marks the titanium/black configuration sold out, while the white-dial version’s availability is not established.
What is the Laventure Marine Type 3?
The Marine Type 3 is a time-only sports watch from Laventure, an independent brand based in Neuchâtel that says its limited-series watches are manufactured in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. Its design shifts away from the brand’s familiar sandwich-dial language toward a more instrument-like look informed by marine chronometers and 1980s watch design, as described in the launch coverage.
It was released in two contrasting dial treatments: black, or white with full-lume dial elements. Both are housed in a dark, stone-washed Grade 23 titanium case with a fixed engraved bezel, a large screw-down crown and a domed Plexiglas crystal. The result is less a conventional glossy dive watch than a high-contrast timing instrument with an unusually prominent bezel and crystal.
How does the Marine Type 3 wear?
Fratello reviewer Daan de Groot reported that the 38 mm case sat comfortably on his 17 cm wrist. That is one reviewer’s experience, not a guarantee of fit, but the 46.2 mm lug-to-lug measurement should help readers compare it with watches they already wear. De Groot also noted the case’s darker appearance: “The Grade 23 titanium case is much darker than steel.”

The small dial and broad fixed bezel create a distinctive visual balance. Hodinkee’s TanTan Wang pointed to the unusual wide-bezel/small-dial proportions and the tall acrylic crystal as defining aspects of the design. The crystal is 2.3 mm domed; Fratello gives the watch’s thickness as 11.2 mm overall, or 8.9 mm excluding the crystal profile. That profile contributes to its vintage-instrument character, but it also means the watch’s total height is more than the case-only figure suggests.
Fratello’s reviewer found the dial contrast legible and preferred the full-lume version on a sage-green rubber strap. The brand offered rubber or elastic textile straps, and the hands-on report says the order included two straps chosen by the buyer. There was no bracelet option.

What does the movement and protection offer?
Laventure Caliber 4 is based on Sellita’s SW300-1. Fratello reports automatic winding, 25 jewels, a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and a 56-hour reserve from an optimized barrel. It also reports 3N gold plating, COSC certification and a soft-iron cage providing magnetic resistance up to 4,800 A/m. Hodinkee independently confirms the stated 56-hour reserve and COSC certification.
The chronometer designation is useful context, but the stated COSC tolerance should not be mistaken for a guarantee of the rate of every watch in daily use. Fratello describes the certification tolerance as +6/-4 seconds per day; the sources do not give an individual Marine Type 3 test result.

Fratello reports that production watches are rated to 300 m and were tested to ISO 6425. The prototypes it handled still had 200 m engravings, so those prototype markings should not be confused with the reported production specification. The available coverage describes the testing but does not provide an independently inspected certification record.
What did it cost, and is it sold out?
Fratello and Hodinkee launch coverage from 2025 listed the Marine Type 3 at CHF 4,200 excluding taxes. The same reports described production of 100 pieces per dial variant. Laventure’s official English site currently describes the Marine Type 3 as limited to 100 pieces and marks the titanium/black configuration “Sold out.” That status applies to the displayed black version; current white-dial inventory is not established.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is the Marine Type 3 worth considering?
The Marine Type 3 makes the strongest case for itself if you want a compact titanium watch with a deliberately unconventional dial-to-bezel balance, a full-lume option, and a certified movement backed by reported magnetic protection and substantial water resistance. The combination is specific rather than universal: it prioritizes instrument-like character over the familiar appearance of a standard dive watch.
Best Value
- Solar powered quartz movement helps reduce frequent battery replacement.
- 300M water resistant design supports swimming, snorkeling, diving, and water sports.
- Luminous hands and markers improve readability in dark or low-light conditions.
- Durable case and mineral glass are built for outdoor and everyday wear.
- WATCH SIZE & WRIST FIT: Features a 45.8 mm (1.80 in) case diameter and a 51.4 mm (2.02 in) lug-to-lug length. The adjustable 24 mm silicone strap accommodates wrists up to 230 mm (9.1 in). Measure your wrist and check the case dimensions before ordering, especially if you have a smaller wrist.
Its main compromises are equally clear. The tall plastic crystal gives the watch much of its personality but increases its overall height; the bezel occupies a lot of visual space around the dial; and buyers must choose between strap options rather than a bracelet. At its 2025 launch price, the limited run and independent Swiss manufacture may appeal to enthusiasts, but edition size alone does not establish scarcity premiums or resale value.
