The Sinn U50 SDR is officially a 41 mm watch, but that is not the whole story: a reviewer measuring a fully Tegimented U50 SDR-T found it was 40.65 mm across the bezel and 39.5 mm across the case beneath it. At roughly 11.1 mm thick, it is unusually slim for a 500 m-rated diver, and the reviewer found it comfortable on a 6.5-inch wrist. Those measurements and fit impressions belong to that SDR-T specimen; Sinn’s published case diameter remains 41 mm.
Is the Sinn U50 SDR really 40 mm?
Not according to Sinn’s stated case diameter. The company’s November 2025 product sheet lists the U50 at 41 mm. The “40 mm” description is understandable when referring to the bezel-inclusive measurement on the reviewed U50 SDR-T: Beans & Bezels measured 40.65 mm across the bezel and 39.5 mm across the case excluding it. Those are different measurement conventions, not a contradiction in Sinn’s specification.

The reviewer says the watch wore comfortably on a 6.5-inch wrist. That is useful context, not a guarantee of fit: wrist shape, strap or bracelet choice, and personal preference all matter. The compact lug-to-lug figures help explain why the U50 can feel less imposing than “41 mm diver” might suggest, while the slim case keeps it from sitting high.
How slim is the U50 SDR?
Beans & Bezels measured its U50 SDR-T at 11.1 mm thick. A Sinn Depot listing for a silicone-strap U50.SDR gives 11.15 mm. Sinn’s November 2025 product-sheet excerpt does not state a thickness, so these should be treated as reviewer and retailer figures rather than an official current-sheet specification. The hands-on reviewer praised the profile and comfort; that is their experience with the fully Tegimented SDR-T, not a universal fit verdict.

What makes the U50 SDR tough?
Submarine steel and coated bezel
Sinn describes the case and crown as made from high-strength, seawater-resistant German Submarine Steel. The SDR has a black-coated bezel; Sinn says its Black Hard Coating is based on TEGIMENT Technology. Sinn describes the TEGIMENT option as making the case especially scratch-resistant. That is not the same as scratch-proof, and it should not be read as a promise that every surface or component is immune to marks.
500 m rating and certification
Sinn specifies pressure resistance of 500 m / 50 bar and says the watch was tested to European diving equipment standards and certified by DNV. These are manufacturer claims about the product’s rating and certification, not the result of a reviewer’s underwater test. The crown sits at 4 o’clock; Sinn says this position is intended to prevent it pressing into the back of the hand.
Crystal, movement and fit details
Sinn’s product sheet specifies a sapphire crystal. A Japan-market Sinn Depot listing for a silicone-strap U50.SDR configuration identifies a Sellita SW300-1 automatic movement, a 42-hour power reserve and a 20 mm strap width. These are listing details for that configuration and should not be generalized to every production revision or strap-and-bracelet package without confirmation.

Beans & Bezels reviewed a fully Tegimented U50 SDR-T. The author praised its case construction, legibility, slimness and crown placement. They described the dial as simple and found the lume functional through the night, though not immediately as bright as some alternatives. Those are one reviewer’s impressions, rather than measured specifications or a consensus among owners.
The main practical criticism was the bracelet clasp: the reviewer objected to its pressed construction and fold-over lock, and missed tool-free on-the-fly micro-adjustment. If bracelet fit changes noticeably through the day, that limitation may matter more than the watch’s slim profile. A silicone-strap configuration is also listed by Sinn Depot, but strap width alone does not establish compatibility with every replacement strap, clasp or variant.
Who is the U50 SDR best suited to?
It is a compelling option for someone who wants a compact-feeling, low-profile mechanical diver with a substantial stated depth rating and a black bezel. The sizing case is strongest when described precisely: Sinn says 41 mm; on one SDR-T, the bezel measured 40.65 mm and the case beneath it 39.5 mm. Its 11.1 mm reviewer-measured thickness and comfortable wear on a 6.5-inch wrist add useful hands-on context, but individual fit should be judged on wrist.
Before choosing a configuration, verify whether the listing is for an SDR or SDR-T and whether it includes a bracelet or silicone strap. The hands-on measurements concern the fully Tegimented SDR-T; the cited retailer specs concern a silicone-strap U50.SDR. Current like-for-like prices and availability are not established here, so check the seller serving your market rather than relying on launch-era prices.
