The three 42mm Hublot Big Bang Meca-10s share the same manually wound HUB1205 movement and stated 10-day power reserve; their main differences are case material, finish, supplied strap and price. The titanium is the entry point, Frosted Carbon offers a textured carbon-fiber look, and 18K King Gold is the precious-metal option. Here is how the references compare—and what the published hands-on review does and does not establish about choosing between them.
How the three 42mm references compare
Lex Stolk’s February 14, 2025 Fratello review identifies three versions: titanium, Frosted Carbon and 18K King Gold. The table combines the specifications and launch prices reported in that review with reference and product information on Hublot’s official pages. Prices are the launch figures Fratello reported in February 2025, not verified current prices.

Fratello reports all three use Hublot’s One Click strap system. Confirm compatibility for the exact reference before buying another strap. Hublot provides a King Gold, titanium and Frosted Carbon product page for the respective models; check the strap finder or ask Hublot or an authorized retailer about fit.
What changed with the 42mm case?
Fratello gives the new case dimensions as 42mm across and 13.9mm thick. For comparison, its review lists the 2016 Big Bang Meca-10 at 45mm × 15.8mm. The smaller, thinner case is therefore a meaningful change in the model’s proportions, while retaining the open mechanical display that defines the Meca-10. These are publication-reported dimensions, not measurements made for this article. Fratello’s review provides the earlier-model comparison.

HUB1205: a manually wound movement with a 10-day reserve
Each watch houses the manually wound HUB1205, which Hublot rates for a 10-day power reserve. Fratello lists 264 components, 29 jewels and a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour. Hublot describes the reserve mechanism as a rack system driven by two mainspring barrels. The display is not a conventional hand on a scale: Fratello explains that two superimposed disks rotate in opposite directions to show the remaining reserve digitally.
The movement’s architecture is part of the watch’s visual appeal. Fratello describes HUB1205 as a scaled-down evolution of HUB1201, with a rack-and-pinion construction at 12 o’clock and the power-reserve indication at 3 o’clock. The review also notes a hacking mechanism and a silicon escape wheel it describes as lubricant-free and paramagnetic. Those details do not establish superior accuracy: Time+Tide reports that the range is not chronometer-certified. No independent accuracy comparison is established by the sources cited here.

Hublot says the original Big Bang MECA-10, released in 2016, used a ring-shaped base plate to which the bridges are attached. That design premise helps explain why the movement is presented as an exposed mechanical structure rather than hidden behind a conventional dial. Which material suits your priorities?
Titanium: the lowest reported launch price
The titanium reference, 444.NX.1170.RX, pairs a titanium case with a black lined-rubber strap and folding clasp. Its February 2025 launch price in Fratello’s review was €23,900 / US$23,000. Fratello reviewer Lex Stolk says he and colleague Daan tried on and photographed all three watches; impressions of weight or wear from that review should be read as their experience, not a controlled comparison. The available sources do not establish a durability or comfort ranking among the case materials.

Reference 444.QN.1170.NR is the Frosted Carbon execution. Its black fabric strap closes with Velcro, rather than the rubber strap and folding clasp supplied with the other two references. Fratello reported a February 2025 launch price of €27,400 / US$23,500. Hublot lists the 42mm model on its official Frosted Carbon product page. The cited sources do not provide comparative testing that would support a claim about carbon’s long-term durability versus titanium or gold.
King Gold: the precious-metal option
The 18K King Gold reference is 444.OX.1180.RX. It comes with a black lined-rubber strap and folding clasp, and had a reported February 2025 launch price of €44,500 / US$42,700. Hublot’s official King Gold page confirms the 42mm model and HUB1205 movement. Choose this version for its gold case execution, not on the assumption that the sources establish better performance or value retention.

Price and availability: treat the figures as dated launch prices

They do not establish present-day MSRP, availability, or the price in another country. For a strap change, confirm the exact reference and One Click compatibility rather than assuming that a strap fitting one Meca-10 variant fits all three. Start with the case material and supplied strap, since the movement and stated reserve are shared. Titanium is the least expensive by the 2025 launch prices reported by Fratello; Frosted Carbon is the only version listed with a fabric-and-Velcro strap; King Gold is the 18K gold execution and carries the highest reported launch price. The review does not support an objective winner for comfort, toughness, accuracy or value, so the strongest distinction is the material and look you prefer, balanced against a locally verified current price.
