The A1 is best understood as a design-led independent watch, not an all-purpose tool watch.
Its unusual shape is not just decoration around a conventional round-watch layout: hidden lugs and an offset interior help define the watch’s identity. Those choices bring practical trade-offs, especially when winding the crown or fitting a replacement strap.
What is the Anoma A1?
The original A1 First Series, introduced in 2024, pairs a rounded, pebble-like triangular case with a blue sector dial and a sparse hours-and-minutes display. Fratello Watches described the dial as having printed white indices and reported that the watch has no date or central seconds display.
Time+Tide described the form as drawing on a mid-century table by Charlotte Perriand and noted that the crown is hidden on the right side and accessed from below. The outlet disclosed that its writer had worked with Anoma’s founder, so this launch coverage is useful design context rather than independent hands-on evidence.

How the A1 wears
The case measures 39mm in both width and length, but its short strap attachment points and lack of conventional lugs affect how it sits and looks on the wrist. Fratello’s reviewer described wearing it on a 17.75cm wrist and observed that more strap remains visible around the watch head. That is one reviewer’s experience, not a guarantee of fit for every wrist.
The softened, pebble-like outline gives the A1 a different presence from a round watch of similar dimensions. Its blue dial and printed indices provide a more orderly interior against the fluid case shape, while the sparse display keeps attention on the overall form.

The recessed crown and winding
The crown helps preserve the case outline by sitting recessed into the side. The trade-off is access: Fratello’s reviewer found manual winding awkward. The automatic movement means routine wear does not require daily hand-winding, but crown access still matters when setting the watch or starting it after it has stopped.
Can you change the A1 strap?
Yes. Fratello’s review and Time+Tide’s launch coverage describe standard spring bars and an 18mm strap. Fratello’s reviewer noted that thicker replacement straps may not fit the recessed opening. Check not only the strap width but also its thickness and clearance before buying; the dossier did not confirm a particular replacement strap model.
Original A1 and A1 Slate: key differences
The Slate is a distinct later edition, not simply another name for the original blue-dial watch. Fratello’s April 2025 review reported a black dial with vertical brushing, engraved lanes and three layers of lacquer. It also reported refined case machining, a 300-piece edition and a cream pigskin strap with an 18mm width and 2mm taper.

The original’s printed indices offer clearer conventional time cues than the Slate’s more elaborate engraved and lacquered dial treatment. Both keep the display sparse. Which is preferable depends on whether the buyer prioritizes straightforward visual cues or the Slate’s darker dial finish.

Historical prices and availability
Fratello reported a launch-period price of £1,300 excluding taxes and import fees for the original A1 in 2024. In April 2025, it reported £1,800 excluding taxes for the Slate and said the edition appeared sold out at that time. These are historical reports, not current prices or confirmation of present availability.
Fratello’s September 2026 brand coverage included A1 Core Collection coverage, but the research did not confirm current prices or stock. Check Anoma directly for current availability, regional pricing and purchase terms rather than relying on older launch reports.
Who is the Anoma A1 for?
- Consider it if you value a distinctive sculptural case, independent design and a time-only display.
- Think carefully if you want a crown that is easy to grip, highly immediate legibility or a strap that accepts any 18mm replacement without a fit check.
