The Nodus Contrail GMT is a compact automatic traveler GMT with a 40.5 mm case, 200 m water resistance and a Miyota 9075 movement that lets you adjust local time in one-hour steps. The available extended hands-on account is Jorg Weppelink’s review of the Terra variant, which he says he wore for several months; the current Nodus listing is for the distinct Impulse variant. His review praises the proportions and bracelet, while noting that the red numerals for even dates can be hard to read.
Is the Nodus Contrail GMT a true traveler GMT?
Yes. The Miyota 9075 is a traveler, or “flyer,” GMT movement: its local 12-hour hand can be adjusted independently in one-hour increments. Fratello’s Jorg Weppelink describes advancing or moving that hand backward while traveling, without needing to reset the watch’s other time display. That makes it more convenient for changing local time than an office GMT, whose independently adjusted hand is typically the 24-hour hand.
Nodus specifies the Miyota 9075 as a Japanese-origin automatic movement with 24 jewels and a 42-hour power reserve. The company says it regulates the movement to ±8 seconds per day. That is the manufacturer’s stated regulation target, not an independently verified real-world accuracy result. (Nodus official Contrail GMT Impulse listing; Fratello’s Terra review.)
How does it wear?
Case proportions
The current Impulse listing gives the case as 40.5 mm wide, 11.8 mm thick and 46.6 mm lug-to-lug, with a 20 mm lug width. Those dimensions make it relatively compact on paper for a watch with a rotating GMT bezel, though fit still depends on wrist shape and preference. The case is 316L stainless steel, with a screw-down crown and a box sapphire crystal coated with blue anti-reflective treatment on its underside.

What the Terra hands-on account found
Weppelink says the Terra’s proportions and finishing worked well on his wrist over several months. He found its bracelet comfortable and flexible, and particularly valued the clasp adjustment because it made sizing a substantial clasp easier. These are his wearer impressions, not a guarantee of the same fit on every wrist. Fratello reports that the bracelet uses screw links and that its clasp offers 10 mm of adjustment. (Fratello, December 15, 2024.)
What does the bezel and dial let you do?
The Impulse listing specifies a bidirectional bezel with 48 clicks and a luminous sapphire insert. With 48 positions around a full rotation, each click represents 7.5 degrees; the practical use is half-hour time-zone increments. The Impulse also has Swiss Super-LumiNova BGW9 Grade A, according to Nodus.
Rank #2
- Wandering Hour Display: A Minimalist approach beyond convention, with hours drifting in continuous motion alongside the minutes. At the dial’s centre, a singular wandering assembly traces minutes; along its path, an hour disc rotates calmly, read against a fixed marker.
- Self-Developed Caliber CD-08: Based on the Japanese Miyota 9000-series automatic base, with 24 jewels supporting stable, consistent performance.Built upon the renowned Mivota 9000 series-42-hour reserve 28,800 vph, 24 jewels-this customized automatic is designatec CD-08.
- Super Black Dial: Absorbing 99.3% of light, the dial lets motion emerge from darkness without distraction. Raised minute indices, finely CNC-engraved, encircle the shadow, catching light and framing the motion.
- Sculpted 316L Steel Case: A layered case design combining polished and sandblasted surfaces for refined contrast. Slim and fluid at 11.8 mm, designed to rest close and composed on the wrist. Swiss Super-LumiNova enhances a distinct nighttime presence.

On the Terra, Fratello describes a 24-hour rehaut alongside the bezel, a date at six o’clock and luminous applied indices. Weppelink says the bezel and rehaut can be used together to track three time zones, and that the red GMT hand had enough contrast for him to read home time. Those dial details and impressions refer to the Terra, not necessarily every Contrail GMT colorway. (Fratello’s Terra review.)
What are the drawbacks?
Date contrast on the Terra
Weppelink’s recurring legibility criticism concerns the Terra’s roulette date wheel: its even-date numerals are red against a black background and, in his experience, were not always easy to read. This is a specific contrast issue, not a general finding about all versions of the Contrail GMT.

Availability is not the same as the listed price
As checked on October 7, 2026, Nodus listed the Impulse at $900 but marked it sold out, with an estimated March 2027 restock. The estimated date is a current listing estimate, not a confirmed delivery. Earlier prices belong to different variants and dates: Fratello gave US$825 as the Terra’s price context in December 2024, while Hodinkee reported an $825 retail price for the Evergreen release, which went on sale August 15, 2025. These figures should not be treated as one current price for every variant. (Nodus; Fratello; Hodinkee.)

Nodus describes the Contrail GMT as designed and assembled in Los Angeles. The official listing says returns or exchanges are available within 14 days of receipt; check the current terms directly with Nodus. The 20 mm width and quick-release spring bars also permit strap changes, though the listing does not establish a particular third-party strap as included or recommended. (Nodus official listing.)
Quick Recap
Who should consider the Contrail GMT?
- Frequent travelers: The independently adjustable local hour hand is the most useful reason to choose this movement over an office GMT.
- Those seeking a versatile, water-resistant GMT: The Impulse combines a listed 200 m water resistance rating with a luminous 48-click bezel.
- Buyers sensitive to fit: Use the 46.6 mm lug-to-lug measurement alongside the 40.5 mm case width when judging fit; the reviewer’s favorable experience cannot predict every wrist.
- Buyers focused on immediate purchase: The Impulse was marked sold out on Nodus’s page when checked, so its estimated restock should not be mistaken for current availability.
