The Patek Philippe Nautilus 5740/1G-001 is a white-gold Nautilus with a perpetual calendar, introduced in 2018 as the collection’s first Grand Complication. Its 40 mm case is just 8.42 mm thick, a profile Patek attributes to the slim, self-winding Caliber 240 Q. The figures and features below are published specifications; they are not a report of personal handling or testing.
What is the Nautilus 5740/1G-001?
Reference 5740/1G-001 brings a perpetual calendar to the Nautilus design in a white-gold case and bracelet. Patek Philippe identifies it as the first Grand Complication in the Nautilus collection, introduced in 2018. The model remains on the brand’s current collection page, which establishes that it is still listed there—not that it is in stock or available in any particular market.
The dial is blue with a sunburst finish and horizontal embossing. White-gold applied baton-style markers and white-gold hands with white luminescent coating complete the display. Patek describes the watch as a blend of sporty character and technical sophistication; that is the manufacturer’s positioning, rather than an independent assessment.
What does the perpetual calendar display?
Caliber 240 Q drives the perpetual calendar and its day, date, month, leap-year and 24-hour indications, alongside moon phases. A perpetual calendar is designed to account for the varying lengths of months and the leap-year cycle, reducing the need for routine date correction. The 24-hour indication and moon-phase display add information beyond the calendar itself.

Patek’s published specifications identify the movement as self-winding, with a 22K gold off-center mini-rotor. The caliber measures 27.5 mm across and 3.88 mm thick; Patek lists 275 parts, 27 jewels, a Gyromax balance, a Spiromax balance spring and the Patek Philippe Seal. Its frequency is 21,600 semi-oscillations per hour, or 3 Hz, and its stated power reserve is 38–48 hours.
Why does the movement’s slimness matter?
The watch measures 40 mm in diameter, taken by Patek from 10 to 4 o’clock, and 8.42 mm thick. A perpetual calendar adds substantial mechanical functions, so keeping the finished case slim is a defining part of this reference’s proposition: it combines a complex calendar with the Nautilus’s relatively low-profile shape.

Patek says the ultra-thin self-winding Caliber 240 Q preserves the case’s exceptional slimness and calls the 5740 the thinnest Patek Philippe perpetual calendar. Both the superlative and the explanation are manufacturer claims. The listed movement thickness is 3.88 mm; it should not be confused with the 8.42 mm thickness of the complete watch case.
What are the case, bracelet and water-resistance specifications?
The case and bracelet are white gold. The current Patek Philippe product page lists a screw-down crown, sapphire crystal caseback and water resistance to 30 m. That is the current figure to use for the reference, but it is not consistent across the brand’s published material: Patek’s 2023 Watch Art Tokyo catalog gives 60 m for the same watch. The sources do not explain whether the difference reflects a specification change or a catalog error, so neither figure establishes suitability for swimming or diving.

The product page also lists the blue sunburst dial with horizontal embossing, white-gold applied markers and luminescent hands. These are specifications, not observations from a personal examination of the watch.
