The Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight Navy Blue, reference 79030B (also written M79030B), pairs a 39 mm steel case with a blue dial and bezel, 200 m water resistance and Tudor’s COSC-certified MT5402 automatic movement. Its compact dimensions are documented, but the on-wrist impressions below belong to a named 2020 reviewer—not to a new wear test. Launch prices are historical, and Tudor’s current Black Bay 58 family page describes a newer design rather than confirming the 79030B’s present availability.
What the 2020 Navy Blue reference is
Tudor introduced the Black Bay Fifty-Eight “Navy Blue” in 2020 as reference 79030B. The name and reference distinguish it from the earlier black-dial Black Bay 58 and from newer Black Bay 58 editions. Tudor’s 2020 specification sheet for reference 79030B describes a 39 mm 316L stainless-steel case with polished and satin finishing, a domed blue dial and a domed sapphire crystal.

The unidirectional rotating bezel has a matte blue anodized-aluminum 60-minute insert with silver-gilt markings. The screw-down steel crown carries the Tudor rose. Tudor rates the watch to 200 m (660 ft) water resistance. Those are the manufacturer’s stated specifications, not results from an independent water-resistance test.
How the dimensions translate to fit
The official case diameter is 39 mm. Jorg Weppelink’s Fratello hands-on review measured the case at 11.9 mm thick, including the boxed sapphire crystal, with a 47.75 mm lug-to-lug distance and 20 mm lug width. Professional Watches gives close, slightly different figures—12 mm thickness and 47.5 mm lug-to-lug—so the decimal-level differences should not be treated as definitive. The case diameter and relatively short measured span between the lugs help explain why this is a smaller-wearing Black Bay than many larger dive watches, but dimensions alone cannot predict comfort: wrist shape, strap or bracelet, and personal preference all matter. The 20 mm lug width is useful when checking replacement straps; confirm the attachment and spring-bar dimensions for both the strap and the specific watch before buying.
Movement and power reserve
The 79030B uses Tudor Manufacture Calibre MT5402, a self-winding movement with a bidirectional rotor system and COSC certification. Tudor specifies a variable-inertia balance, screw micro-adjustment, silicon balance spring, stop-seconds function, 27 jewels and a frequency of 28,800 beats per hour (4 Hz). The stated power reserve is approximately 70 hours. These are Tudor’s published specifications; they should not be mistaken for independently measured accuracy or power-reserve results.

Bracelet and strap configurations
Tudor listed three factory configurations for the 2020 launch. Each changes the watch’s feel and fastening arrangement:

In his 2020 Fratello hands-on, Weppelink said he preferred the bracelet for its added wrist presence and found the fabric strap short on his own wrist. He also described the blue as brighter in strong light and deeper in low light. Those are one reviewer’s subjective observations, not a guarantee of how the color or fit will seem to every wearer.

What it cost at launch—and what that tells you now
Launch prices varied by market and source, and none of the following is a current quote. Tudor’s 2020 Swiss price sheet listed CHF 3,500 on bracelet and CHF 3,200 on strap, inclusive of Swiss VAT. Hodinkee reported 2020 US launch prices of $3,700 on bracelet and $3,375 on either the fabric or soft-touch strap. The US figures appear in Hodinkee’s 2020 coverage; the Swiss figures are in Tudor’s linked specification sheet.
These are dated launch figures for different markets, not like-for-like current prices. Tudor’s current Black Bay 58 family page covers newer models and does not establish whether the 79030B remains in production or is available from authorized retailers. Check Tudor or an authorized retailer in your region for current model status and pricing; any pre-owned offer should be assessed separately for seller, condition and completeness.

How it differs from newer Black Bay 58 models
The 2020 79030B should not be conflated with the updated Black Bay 58 models on Tudor’s current family page. Tudor describes that newer family as having an updated case design, slimmer construction, two-line dial text, and bracelet or rubber options; the page also describes a five-link bracelet. The 2020 Navy Blue sheet instead documents its own reference-specific case and the three original configurations listed above. The family page does not provide enough information to make a complete technical, movement or price comparison across generations.
When comparing listings or deciding between generations, start with the exact reference rather than the shared “Black Bay 58” name. Confirm the case, movement, included bracelet or strap and clasp against the specific model documentation, then compare regional pricing and availability using current seller information.
