Short answer: The Hanhart Aquasphere Ocean Fade makes a distinctive, technically convincing case as a German dive watch, but it is not an obvious answer for everyone. Its blue-to-black gradient dial, 30-bar rating and well-specified Soprod automatic movement are appealing; its 42 mm case and launch pricing put fit and budget firmly in the decision. Hanhart’s specifications establish a capable-looking everyday diver, not independent ISO 6425 certification or a universal value win.
What is the Aquasphere Ocean Fade?
The Ocean Fade is the gradient-dial version of Hanhart’s Aquasphere dive-watch line. Its design centers on a dial that transitions from blue to black, framed by a ceramic-inlay rotating bezel and a stainless-steel case. Hanhart describes the gradient as an ocean-depth reference; the execution is also the feature that distinguishes this model from a more conventional black-dial diver.
For a German diver-watch buyer, the appeal is a mix of practical specifications and a more expressive dial, rather than a radically compact case or an unusually long power reserve. The key question is whether the size, movement and price suit your use—not whether the watch can stand in for every diver on the market.
How does it wear, and will the size fit?
Hanhart lists a 42 mm case diameter, 12.95 mm thickness and 49 mm lug-to-lug length. Those figures put it in modern, substantial-diver territory rather than the compact end of the category. Lug-to-lug length and thickness can matter as much as diameter: check all three against a watch you already find comfortable, and consider how the case sits under a cuff.

WatchReport’s reviewer says the watch wore comfortably on a 7.5-inch (19.05 cm) wrist, despite the 42 mm diameter. That is one person’s experience, not a guarantee of fit for other wrists. Fratello describes the case as 12.5 mm thick, while Hanhart’s current specification is 12.95 mm; use the manufacturer’s figure when comparing dimensions.
Does the dial and bezel work for legibility?
The Ocean Fade’s blue-to-black gradient gives the dial more visual character than a plain dark face. Hanhart specifies Super-LumiNova C1 GL X2 on the hands, indexes, 12 o’clock marker and bezel markings. The hour hand has a luminous bar, while the seconds hand ends in red, providing a contrasting detail in daylight.

- LARGE FLUORESCENT HANDS & INDICES FOR INSTANT READABILITY — The dial features hands and hour indices with large fluorescent areas for easy reading in low-light and underwater conditions. The clean 3-hand analog layout with date display at 3 o'clock keeps the dial uncluttered and immediately legible at a glance.

- 3-YEAR BATTERY & 200M WATER RESISTANCE — Powered by an SR626SW battery with an approximate 3-year life, the case measures 49.5 × 46.3 × 12.1mm and weighs 92 grams. At 200 meters of water resistance, the Duro is versatile and suitable for all situations — whether in the water, hiking, running, or at the office.
Those are the manufacturer’s lume specifications; they do not quantify brightness or how long the glow remains useful. WatchReport’s reviewer found the dial easy to read and praised the bezel’s tactile feel, but also perceived a weakness in the bezel lume application. Treat that as a subjective review observation rather than a measured performance result.
What movement does it use?
Hanhart lists an automatic Soprod SOP P024 base movement in TOP version, with a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour), 25 jewels, a minimum 38-hour power reserve and no date. Fratello also identifies the watch as using a top-grade Soprod P024 and reports regulation of 0/+8 seconds per day across six positions. That regulation figure is Fratello’s report, not a guarantee of the accuracy of every individual watch in use.

- Professional diving watch

- Luminox Light Technology (LLT) - lights up to 25 years without an external energy source
Some listings may conflict: Time and Watches’ August 3, 2025 report calls the movement a Sellita SW 200-1. Hanhart’s current model page and Fratello identify the base as Soprod P024, so that is the specification to rely on unless Hanhart confirms a change for a particular production run.
Is it a serious dive watch?
Hanhart specifies water resistance of 30 bar/30 ATM according to DIN 8310 and a counterclockwise rotating bezel. The rating is substantial on paper for a watch intended for water use. It should not be restated as independent ISO 6425 dive-watch certification: the available product information does not establish that certification.

- Movement: NH35A automatic with 24 gems, quite accurate
- Waterproof: Water resistant up to 20 ATM / 200 meters / 655 feet/20 bars
- Luminous: Luminescent hands and indexes, excellent night brightness
- Material: Premium 316L stainless steel, synthetic sapphire crystal, black leather strap
- Size: Fits wrists from approximately 152 mm to approximately 228 mm
Water resistance is not a substitute for checking the watch’s condition and following Hanhart’s care guidance, particularly after impact, service or extended use. A rating also does not establish that the watch has been tested for a particular wearer’s diving conditions.
What configurations and prices were reported?
When the model launched in 2025, Fratello and Time+Tide reported different prices by supplied strap or bracelet. These are launch prices, not verified current prices or a promise of availability in every country.

Check Hanhart or an authorized seller for the current price, the configuration offered in your market and any differences in taxes or availability. The published lug width is 20 mm. Hanhart offers Hook fabric, rubber and steel options, and says its new black and blue rubber straps also fit the Aquasphere FreeFall Blue. A third-party 20 mm strap may still differ in end shape, attachment or clasp fit, so width alone does not confirm compatibility.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How does it compare with other dive watches?
The available facts support a useful shortlist comparison, not a sourced head-to-head ranking. Compare contenders on:
- Diameter, lug-to-lug length and thickness, considered together for fit.
- Movement type, stated power reserve and any accuracy claim, including who reports it.
- Water-resistance rating and the exact standard or certification claimed.
- Bezel operation and the stated lume layout, rather than assuming equal low-light performance.
- Included strap or bracelet, lug width and clasp details.
- Warranty terms and current local price for the configuration you would actually buy.
On the evidence here, the Ocean Fade’s clearest differentiators are the gradient dial, Hanhart’s German brand identity and the combination of a 30-bar specification with a 42 mm case. Whether that package is more compelling than alternatives depends on how it fits and what those alternatives offer at current prices.
Quick Recap
Who should consider the Ocean Fade?
It makes sense if
- You want a dive-watch design with a blue-to-black dial rather than another plain black face.
- A 42 mm diameter, 49 mm lug-to-lug and nearly 13 mm thickness suit your wrist and wardrobe.
- You value the stated 30-bar rating and automatic Soprod movement, while understanding what the specifications do—and do not—establish.
- You want a choice of fabric, rubber or steel configurations and are comfortable checking the current price for your market.
Look elsewhere if
- You need a compact diver or already know that a 49 mm lug-to-lug case tends to overhang your wrist.
- You require independently established ISO 6425 certification.
- You prioritize a longer power reserve or have a strict budget that the available configuration price does not meet.
