What is the Hermès Arceau Duc Attelé?
It is a limited-edition Arceau watch built around the H1926 movement, combining a minute repeater with a centrally positioned triple-axis tourbillon. The name and visual language draw on the horse-drawn carriage: “duc attelé” refers to a carriage drawn by horses, and Hermès carries that theme through the mechanism and dial. The Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie lists it as a 2024 novelty.
Hermès presents the H1926 as a hand-wound mechanical movement with a 5 Hz frequency. The brand’s current product copy and its 2024 watch page agree on manual winding, although a separate Hermès technical sheet labels the movement self-winding. Given that conflict, the repeated manual-winding description is the better-supported wording, while the discrepancy is worth noting for anyone comparing technical documents. How does the minute repeater work?
A minute repeater sounds the time on demand. In the Duc Attelé, the mechanism chimes the hours, then the quarter-hours, then the remaining minutes. Its sound comes from an elongated, U-shaped hardened-steel tuning-fork gong, struck by hammers shaped like horses.

Hermès describes the tones as “reminiscent of cathedral chimes.” That is the maker’s characterization, not an independent listening assessment. Hermès’s 2024 corporate report also calls out the repeater’s patented tuning-fork timbre, alongside the central triaxial tourbillon and 5 Hz frequency. What makes the tourbillon triple-axis?
A tourbillon places the regulating mechanism in a rotating cage. Here, the cage moves around three axes rather than one. Hermès specifies a full rotation in 300 seconds on one axis, 60 seconds on another, and 25 seconds on the third. The triple mirror-polished titanium carriage sits at the centre of the watch, visible beneath a sapphire dome.

The cage also supplies a distinctive design cue: Hermès says its twin-H shape refers to the 1900 marriage of Émile Hermès and Julie Hollande. Cut-outs in the gearing take inspiration from carriage wheels and from an Alfred de Dreux drawing acquired by Émile Hermès in 1920.
