DOXA dates the SUB concept to 1967, and the modern SUB 300 still makes its diving purpose visible in its bezel, compact case proportions and distinctive color options. The historical record and current specifications are different things: DOXA’s origin story is a brand retrospective, while the modern Professional’s movement, materials and water resistance belong to today’s model listing.
Why the DOXA SUB 300 became a recognizable dive-watch design
The SUB 300’s identity is tied to making dive-specific functions part of the watch’s visual design. DOXA says its SUB concept was launched in 1967 as a purpose-designed diver’s watch intended to be accessible to a broader public. The company describes it as “the first truly purpose-designed diver’s watch accessible to a broader public”; that “first” is DOXA’s characterization, not an independently established consensus.
An independent historical overview places the 1967 SUB 300 among the notable dive watches of the decade and describes the original Professional configuration as having an orange dial. It also associates DOXA’s North American presence with US Divers. These details offer useful historical context, but they are not a substitute for launch-era primary documentation.
What the historical record establishes—and what it does not
DOXA’s official history dates the SUB concept to 1967 and calls the watch a milestone in dive-watch history. Those are the manufacturer’s retrospective claims. The available historical account does not independently establish every launch detail: original DOXA catalogs, launch advertisements and archival technical documents are not cited here.

One distinction matters when tracing the line’s technical history: DOXA says the SUB 300T Conquistador arrived in 1968 as one of the first dive watches equipped with a helium escape valve. That is a claim about the 300T, not the SUB 300, and it comes from DOXA’s own retrospective.
How the SUB 300’s bezel is meant to work
The modern SUB 300 has a unidirectional rotating bezel carrying dive-time minutes and a depth scale in meters. DOXA says these scales are intended to help divers calculate no-stop decompression dive times. The bezel is a timing aid, not a replacement for dive training, a dive computer or other safety procedures.
The bezel is one of the clearest links between the watch’s functional identity and its appearance. Rather than treating the SUB 300 as simply a modern sports watch with a historical name, DOXA presents its scale and rotating bezel as tools for diving.

How the modern SUB 300 carries the design forward
Heritage styling, current materials
On the current SUB 300 Professional listing, DOXA describes a domed, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment. The company says the dome echoes the shape of the plexiglass used on the 1967 original: a historical form translated into a contemporary material.
Colors and configurations
DOXA lists the current SUB 300 in multiple dial colors, with configurations that include a beads-of-rice stainless-steel bracelet or a rubber strap. The product page also describes wetsuit extensions on the clasps. Exact colors and strap choices can vary by reference and region, so check the relevant listing before choosing a configuration.

What makes the DOXA SUB 300 special?
Its appeal comes from the combination of a purpose-built dive-watch identity, a distinctive bezel with diving scales, and a visual design that DOXA connects to the 1967 original. The current model preserves selected cues—such as a domed crystal—while using contemporary materials and movement specifications. Keeping those strands separate makes the watch’s history clearer: the brand supplies the 1967 origin framing, secondary history adds context, and modern product pages define what a current reference offers.
