The BALL Engineer Master II Normandy at the center of Fratello’s 2019 “Hot Take” is a 44 mm automatic chronograph, limited to 750 pieces and reported at launch for US$2,650. Its specifications belong to that original watch—not to later BALL watches that reuse the Normandy name.
What the original Engineer Master II Normandy is
Fratello’s 2019 article describes a stainless-steel, 44 mm automatic chronograph powered by BALL caliber RR1408-C and reported as COSC chronometer certified. The watch combines a bidirectional rotating bezel with an anti-reflective sapphire crystal and transparent sapphire case back. Its stated water resistance is 50 m / 166 ft. Fratello’s 2019 Hot Take is the source for these historical specifications.
The article lists 21 micro gas tubes and blue or black dial options. It also describes a bracelet and an additional rubber strap as available. The original edition was limited to 750 pieces, with a reported launch price of US$2,650 and shipping expected in October–November 2019. Those are launch-era details, not confirmation of current availability, resale value, or pricing.
How it differs from later Normandy watches
BALL subsequently used the Normandy name for other products. Its 80th-anniversary collection page describes a range that includes three-hand models with either manufacture caliber RRM7309-C or automatic RR1108, alongside a 44 mm Engineer Master II chronograph with a circular slide rule. The page marks the Battle of Normandy’s 80th anniversary and gives collection-level starting prices of US$1,799 pre-order and US$2,149 retail. These figures describe that page’s later collection, not the 2019 chronograph. BALL’s 80th-anniversary collection page.

A specific later reference, NM3500C-S4-BK, is also not the original Normandy chronograph: it is a 45 mm black-dial, three-hand watch. BALL lists its movement as RR1108, power reserve as 54 hours, water resistance as 100 m / 330 ft, anti-magnetism as 4,800 A/m, shock resistance as 5,000 G, and its dial lighting as 14 micro gas tubes. The page shows a US price of US$2,299. These specifications and displayed price apply only to that reference and may change. BALL’s NM3500C-S4-BK product page.

Measurements beyond the original’s 44 mm diameter, including thickness and lug width, are not established here for both watches, so they cannot be compared reliably. In particular, the later NM3500C-S4-BK’s 22 mm lug width should not be assumed to fit the original chronograph.

What to know about the H3 lighting
BALL’s owner manual says the brightness of H3 micro gas lights declines over time and can be restored by replacing affected lights. It does not establish a fixed service interval or a repair cost, so neither should be assumed for the original Normandy. BALL’s owner manual.
