The standard SeaQ and limited SeaQ 1969 share the essential 39.5 mm steel case and Calibre 39-11; the 1969 edition makes the historical connection more explicit with vintage-style dial details and a 69-piece production run. The larger SeaQ Panorama Date is a distinct option, not simply a bigger version of the same specification.
What inspired the Glashütte Original SeaQ?
Glashütte Original says the SeaQ takes inspiration from the “Spezimatic Typ RP TS 200” from 1969, identified by the brand as its first diver’s watch. The modern case shape and polished facet echo that earlier design, while the SeaQ is built as a contemporary sports watch. The company’s current SeaQ product page presents the historical link as part of the model’s identity.
SeaQ vs. SeaQ 1969: what changes?
The standard SeaQ and SeaQ 1969 share the main mechanical and case specifications described in Glashütte Original’s 2019 launch announcement. Their differences are chiefly in how directly each watch expresses the vintage reference.
| Feature | SeaQ | SeaQ 1969 |
|---|---|---|
| Case and movement | 39.5 mm stainless steel; automatic Calibre 39-11 | 39.5 mm stainless steel; automatic Calibre 39-11 |
| Water resistance | 20 bar, as stated in the 2019 launch release | 20 bar, as stated in the 2019 launch release |
| Dial and hands | Contemporary dial treatment; details vary by reference | Historic dial wording, green hands and beige “Old Radium” markers |
| Edition size | No limited production count stated in the launch release | 69 pieces, according to Glashütte Original / Swatch Group in 2019 |
| Strap configuration | Offered in multiple configurations; exact options vary by reference | Launch configurations included strap versions |
The 1969’s dial includes “Rubies 26” and “Shockproof,” terms carried over from the vintage watch. The launch release explains that “Rubies 26” referred to the historic Calibre 75, while “Shockproof” described the vintage model’s stable construction. These inscriptions and the lume colors make the limited edition’s heritage cues more conspicuous than those of the standard SeaQ.

- Glashutte Original SeaQ Automatic Green Dial Men's Watch 1-39-11-13-83-34
The 69-piece figure is the edition size announced by Glashütte Original / Swatch Group in 2019, not a count of watches currently for sale. The sources do not establish the SeaQ 1969’s current availability.
What does the current SeaQ specification include?
The manufacturer’s product page reviewed for reference 1-39-11-13-83-37 describes a reed-green-dial SeaQ on a green rubber strap. Those reference-specific details should not automatically be applied to every SeaQ.

The same page notes that strap choices depend on the model and that additional straps or bracelets may be purchased individually. Check the exact reference for its dial, strap, clasp and case-back configuration before comparing it with another SeaQ.
How does the SeaQ Panorama Date differ?
The SeaQ Panorama Date changes the wearing proposition as well as the display: it is larger, has a different movement and offers a higher stated water-resistance rating. Glashütte Original’s 2019 launch release gives these family specifications:
Rank #3
- Approximate Power Reserve of 100 hours.
- Black sunray dial
- Glashutte Caliber 36-13
- Sapphire crystal caseback
| Specification | SeaQ | SeaQ Panorama Date |
|---|---|---|
| Case diameter | 39.5 mm | 43.2 mm |
| Movement | Calibre 39-11 | Calibre 36-13 |
| Power reserve | 40 hours | 100 hours |
| Date placement | Date at 3 o’clock | Large date at 4 o’clock |
| Water resistance | 20 bar | 30 bar |
These are launch-release specifications; the brand’s current product information for a particular reference is the place to confirm its exact details. The Panorama Date’s greater diameter may be a drawback or an advantage depending on wrist and preference; its higher reserve and 30-bar rating do not make it universally the better choice.

Which SeaQ makes more sense?
- Choose the standard SeaQ if you want the 39.5 mm core design and Calibre 39-11 without the limited edition’s more explicit vintage dial treatment.
- Look for the SeaQ 1969 if the historic inscriptions, green hands and beige markers are central to the appeal, and you are considering a model announced as a 69-piece edition. Verify availability with a retailer.
- Consider the Panorama Date if you prefer a 43.2 mm case, a large date at 4 o’clock, a 100-hour reserve and the launch release’s 30-bar rating.
For any candidate, confirm the exact reference, case back, strap or bracelet, local pricing and availability with Glashütte Original or an authorized retailer. The published manufacturer ratings are specifications, not an independent water-resistance test.
