The OMEGA Speedmaster Chronoscope is a 43 mm mechanical chronograph distinguished by a dial with three concentric timing scales: tachymeter, telemeter and pulsometer. The collection was introduced in 2021; the Paris 2024 commemorative series followed in 2024, so “new” does not describe every Chronoscope currently listed. The exact reference matters: materials, dial, strap and movement can vary.
What does the Speedmaster Chronoscope measure?
Its chronograph records elapsed time, while the three scales around the dial let the wearer use that timing function for different estimates. OMEGA describes the collection’s 1940s-inspired layout as a “snail” design. These scales are specialized chronograph aids, not substitutes for modern measuring instruments.

Tachymeter: average speed over a known distance
A tachymeter relates elapsed time to speed when the distance is known. Start the chronograph at the beginning of the measured distance and stop it at the end; the scale is intended to give a speed reading for that interval. OMEGA explains the scale in its 2021 launch announcement.
Telemeter: approximate distance to a visible and audible event
A telemeter uses the delay between seeing an event and hearing it to estimate distance. For example, the time between a flash and its sound can be timed with the chronograph. The estimate depends on sound travel and is not a precision rangefinder.

Pulsometer: a timed heartbeat count
The Chronoscope’s pulsometer is described on a 30-pulses-per-minute scale. It is designed to calculate a heart rate by timing a counted number of pulses; it should not be treated as a medical device.
Is the Speedmaster Chronoscope manual-wind?
The cited steel-bracelet reference, 329.30.43.51.02.002, uses a hand-wound Calibre 9908. OMEGA Japan lists a 60-hour power reserve, 4 Hz frequency, column-wheel chronograph, Co-Axial escapement, Master Chronometer certification and resistance to magnetic fields of 15,000 gauss for that reference. These are manufacturer specifications, not independently tested results. See the OMEGA Japan product page.

- Stainless steel case
- Black dial
- Swiss-automatic movement
- Case diameter: 40mm
- Water resistant to 330 feet
Do not assume every Chronoscope has the same calibre. OMEGA’s announcement for the Paris 2024 series identifies Calibre 9908 or 9909. Check the exact reference’s product page for its movement and consult the manual corresponding to that watch; the available OMEGA manual is for reference 311.93.44.51.99.002.
How the Chronoscope design connects to earlier Speedmasters
In its September 23, 2021 announcement, Swatch Group linked the dial layout to OMEGA chronograph wristwatches from the 1940s. The announcement also calls out leaf-shaped hands and a spiral track beneath the Arabic numerals, and describes the manual-winding Calibre 9908 as visible through a sapphire caseback. This is OMEGA and Swatch Group’s account of the design heritage, rather than an independent historical assessment.

What is different about the Chronoscope references?
The collection is not one fixed specification. OMEGA’s regional catalog lists steel-bracelet and leather-strap variants, while the Paris 2024 series has its own materials and commemorative details. The table separates what the cited sources establish; it is not a complete global inventory, and the Japan catalog may change.
| Model or reference | Case and configuration | Dial and edition details | Movement | Price information |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 329.30.43.51.02.002 | 43 mm; steel bracelet, per OMEGA Japan | Reference page identifies the model; the cited detail does not establish a Paris 2024 commemorative caseback. | Hand-wound Calibre 9908 | OMEGA Japan displayed ¥1,584,000 when indexed; Japan-market figure, subject to change. |
| Paris 2024 Chronoscope series | 43 mm range; steel and 18K Moonshine Gold versions; steel bracelet and calfskin strap configurations described by OMEGA | Silvery white opaline dial, dark grey scales, blackened subdials, gold-colored numerals and leaf-shaped hands; commemorative caseback on the Olympic edition. | Calibre 9908 / 9909, as identified by OMEGA for the series; allocation by individual reference is not stated in the cited release. | Not stated in the cited Paris 2024 release. |
| Other regional catalog variants | OMEGA Japan lists steel-bracelet and leather-strap models; exact configuration varies by reference. | Consult the individual listing for dial and edition details. | Not stated here for each individual reference; verify on its product page. | Japan-market listing prices vary by model and may change. |
OMEGA announced the Paris 2024 series on April 16, 2024, marking 100 days to the Games. Its release describes the collection’s 43 mm size, design cues and configurations. For a broader view of regional listings, check the OMEGA Japan Chronoscope collection page.

How much does an OMEGA Speedmaster Chronoscope cost?
There is no single price for the collection: price depends on reference and market. The OMEGA Japan page for reference 329.30.43.51.02.002 showed ¥1,584,000 when indexed, and the Japan collection page listed leather-strap variants at different prices. These are localized, changeable Japan-market figures, not a current US or worldwide price. Check OMEGA’s official page for the exact reference and your region before comparing listings.
Quick Recap
What to check before choosing a reference
- Reference number: Match the full reference across the product page, warranty information and any manual.
- Materials and fit: Compare steel with gold versions and bracelet with leather or calfskin straps; confirm the exact configuration rather than relying on collection photos.
- Dial and edition: Distinguish standard catalog models from Paris 2024 commemorative versions, including the edition-specific caseback.
- Movement: Verify the calibre for the specific reference instead of assuming all Chronoscopes use Calibre 9908.
- Local price: Use the current regional listing for the chosen reference; a price shown for Japan does not establish the price in another market.
