The Arken Alterum is a titanium automatic travel watch with a second 12-hour time-zone display, but it does not set like a conventional flyer GMT. To set it, first create the time difference by moving the local display backward while the second-zone hand stays put, then advance the hands to local time. Separate AM/PM indicators show whether each displayed zone is in daytime or nighttime.
How the Alterum’s dual-time display works
The Alterum tracks local time and a second time zone on 12-hour displays. Because either display can otherwise be ambiguous about morning or evening, it has two AM/PM indicators, one for each zone. A pointer date is also included.

Arken’s product page identifies the movement as ARK-9015DT2, based on the Miyota 9015 and modified with Arken’s dual-time module. The user manual calls it ARK-9015DT. The sources use both names, so the suffix is not consistent across Arken’s materials. Fratello’s launch-era hands-on report describes the crown as controlling both hour hands, with the module holding the second-zone hand during the offset-setting phase; a screw-down pusher adjusts the date. Fratello’s explanation of the original Alterum and Arken’s product page describe the mechanism and its current naming.
How to set the second time zone
The setting sequence is central to using the watch: establish the offset first, then set the destination’s local time. In practical terms, the second-zone hand remains in place while you move the local display backward to create the difference between the two zones; after that, advance the hands to the correct local time. The AM/PM indicators help confirm which half of the day each display represents.

- Establish the offset: use the crown to move the local display backward while the second-zone hand is held by the module. Stop when the two displays show the intended difference between home and destination time.
- Set local time: advance the hands to the correct time at your destination. Check both AM/PM indicators so the displayed zones are on the intended side of midnight.
- Adjust the date if needed: use the screw-down secondary pusher, following the instructions in Arken’s Alterum user manual.
This is not the familiar independent local-hour-jump operation of a conventional flyer GMT. The Alterum does provide a useful second time zone, but its offset-setting method is different; Hodinkee’s launch coverage also distinguishes its operation from a conventional GMT.
Case, dimensions and legibility
Arken describes the reference 1122 as having a full titanium case with an anti-scratch treatment, sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on the underside, BGW9 Super-LumiNova, and screw-locked crown, secondary pusher and caseback. The stated water-resistance rating is 200m/660ft. The supplied strap is a custom quick-release, tapered nylon design fitted to the case.
Dimension descriptions can look inconsistent unless case and bezel measurements are separated: the case is 40mm across, while the bezel measures 38mm. Lug-to-lug length is reported as 46mm and thickness as 13mm. Hodinkee’s launch article clarifies the 40mm case versus 38mm bezel distinction; Fratello’s 2026 Sage Grey specifications list 40 × 46 × 13mm. These figures describe the reported dimensions, not a documented case revision. See Hodinkee’s original specifications and Fratello’s Sage Grey coverage.
Published movement specifications
Arken’s manual lists the following technical figures. They are manufacturer-published specifications, not independent timing or durability test results; the manual also says specifications may change without notice.

The watch comes with a case-fit quick-release tapered nylon strap. Fratello’s 2023 hands-on report says an Arken adaptor can allow use of regular 18mm straps and that owners of the Instrumentum can use Arken bracelets on the Alterum. Later Sage Grey coverage lists an 18/16mm integrated green nylon strap, so strap-width descriptions vary by configuration. Treat the adaptor and bracelet information as launch-era secondary reporting, not a guarantee of current stock or fit; check with Arken before buying an adaptor or a third-party strap. See Fratello’s original strap report and its Sage Grey specifications.
Arken recommends inspection every two years by the brand or a partnering service centre, including checks of the case, crown gaskets and crystal seals. Its manual cautions against strong magnetism, chemicals, drops and forceful impact; it also notes that external temperature can affect accuracy. Follow the manual for care rather than attempting an undocumented repair.
Price and availability
Arken’s product page currently lists the Alterum at £630, marks it out of stock and says the preorder window is closed. The page gives an estimated Q4 2026–Q2 2027 delivery window for preorder orders, conditional on order volumes; that estimate is not a firm delivery promise. It also says the black and anthracite versions will no longer be available online. Check Arken’s current listing for any change in stock or ordering status.

Availability reports from other dates and markets should not be mistaken for current inventory. Fratello reported the Sage Grey initial limited batch sold out after going on sale May 23, followed by an unlimited preorder with the same estimated delivery window. A Japanese launch announcement dated March 17, 2026, named H°M’S” WatchStore, a March 20 domestic launch and general online sales from March 30 at ¥165,000 including tax; it does not establish present stock. Historical launch coverage also reported different early-bird and standard prices, which are not the current £630 listing. See Fratello’s Sage Grey report and the Japanese launch announcement.
Who the Alterum suits
The Alterum makes sense for a wearer who wants a titanium automatic with two 12-hour time displays and explicit day/night indication, and who is comfortable with an offset-setting procedure that differs from a flyer GMT. Before choosing it over another travel watch, consider how its setting method fits your routine, whether the reported 40mm case and 46mm lug-to-lug suit your wrist, and whether the current availability works for your plans. The 200m rating, screw-locked controls and quick-release strap are useful parts of the package, but they do not change the watch’s distinctive way of setting the second zone.
