What is new about the Day-Date 36 variations?
“New” needs qualification. Rolex’s live collection page shows configurations it currently lists; it is not a dated announcement that each one launched in 2026. Rolex’s dated video description from April 8, 2024, does document two Day-Date 36 dial designs from that year: a yellow-gold model with a white lacquer dial and faceted, deconstructed Roman numerals, and an Everose model with a blue-green dial and ten baguette-cut diamonds. The current lineup is best understood as a choice among materials and treatments. The catalog includes yellow gold, Everose gold, and platinum Day-Date 36 configurations, with dials including champagne, white, olive green, blue ombré, pink opal, mother-of-pearl, Eisenkiesel, and green aventurine. Some models add diamond-set dials or other gem setting. These details can vary together, so a dial color alone does not identify the full configuration.
How do the two Everose examples differ?

Rolex describes reference 128235 as a 36 mm Everose gold watch with a white dial, fluted bezel, and President bracelet. It is a comparatively restrained option within this pair. The official brochure describes reference 128345RBR with a green aventurine dial set with diamonds, a diamond-set bezel, and a diamond-set President bracelet. It is a much more gem-forward interpretation. The contrast is useful when comparing styles, but neither model should be treated as the only or newest Day-Date 36. What defines the Day-Date 36?
Rolex says the Day-Date debuted in 1956 and that the President bracelet was created for its launch. The brand’s technical overview describes the original watch as the only one at release to display the day of the week spelled out in full alongside the date, with the day available in more than 20 languages. The full day display and date remain the family’s defining functions.
Rolex currently offers the Day-Date in 36 mm and 40 mm case diameters, exclusively in precious metals, and with the President bracelet. The Day-Date 36 and Day-Date 40 use the same calibre 3255, a self-winding mechanical movement developed and manufactured by Rolex. These are Rolex’s specifications and historical claims. How should you compare current variations?
Compare the full reference and configuration, rather than relying on a broad label such as “gold” or “green dial.” A useful checklist is:
- Reference: Use the exact reference number to distinguish configurations and confirm that a listing matches the model you mean.
- Case and bracelet: Identify the metal—yellow gold, Everose gold, or platinum—and note whether the bracelet is gem-set.
- Dial: Check its color, material, and finish. Aventurine, mother-of-pearl, opal, lacquer, and ombré treatments are not interchangeable descriptions.
- Bezel and setting: Distinguish a fluted bezel from a diamond-set bezel, and check whether diamonds appear on the dial or bracelet as well.
- Size: The 36 mm case is distinct from the 40 mm Day-Date, even though Rolex specifies calibre 3255 for both.
- Market and price: Rolex’s live catalog displays US-dollar prices for the US market. Its current displayed range includes examples from $45,900 for a yellow-gold Day-Date 36 to $143,500 for an Everose gold and diamond configuration; these are changeable catalog prices, not universal or durable price guidance. Confirm local pricing and availability for the exact reference.
Where to verify a listing
Start with Rolex’s official collection page for current catalog configurations, then compare the listing’s reference and stated specifications with Rolex’s product information. Rolex says only Official Rolex Jewelers are allowed to sell and maintain its watches. For any purchase, confirm the seller’s credentials, authenticity, condition, local availability, and current price rather than assuming that an online marketplace listing is authorized.
