AirPods Pro 3 are the best overall current in-ear AirPods for most iPhone owners who want strong noise cancellation, a secure sealed fit, exercise features, and Apple’s most complete feature set. They start at $249 in the U.S. and add five ear-tip sizes, IP57 resistance, workout heart-rate sensing, hearing features, and up to eight hours of listening with ANC enabled.
The better value is AirPods 4 with ANC at $179 if you dislike silicone tips or want to save $70. Standard AirPods 4 are the simplest lower-cost option when ANC is unnecessary. AirPods Max 2 are a separate over-ear category for buyers who want larger headphones, USB-C lossless and ultra-low-latency wired audio, and up to 20 hours of ANC listening.

The current AirPods lineup at a glance
Apple’s current U.S. lineup spans two open-fit earbuds, one sealed in-ear model, and one over-ear headphone. The differences in fit and use case matter more than the feature list alone.

AirPods Pro 3: what the extra $70 buys
Compared with AirPods 4 with ANC, the AirPods Pro 3 cost $70 more in the United States. The premium pays for a fundamentally different fit as well as additional hardware: a sealed ear-tip design, five tip sizes, a higher dust-and-water-resistance rating, workout heart-rate sensing, expanded hearing features, and Apple’s strongest published in-ear noise-cancellation claim.
Apple says AirPods Pro 3 remove up to twice as much noise as the previous-generation AirPods Pro and up to four times as much as the original AirPods Pro. Those figures come from Apple’s testing under its stated IEC 60268-24 methodology. They are Apple performance claims, not independent comparative test results, so they should not be treated as a universal ranking for every listener or environment.
The fit is the biggest difference
AirPods Pro 3 use silicone ear tips in XXS, XS, S, M, and L. Apple also describes the tips as foam-infused and the earbuds as using a multiport acoustic architecture intended to improve passive isolation, bass response, soundstage, and vocal clarity.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteAirPods 4 and AirPods 4 with ANC use an open-style shape without listed silicone ear tips. That makes them the more logical choice for someone who dislikes the plugged-up sensation of sealed earbuds. It also creates a physical trade-off: an open fit generally provides less passive isolation than a sealed ear-tip design. The difference is an inference from the form factors, not an independent comfort or isolation test.
If you already own the Pro 3 and lose or damage a tip, look for AirPods Pro 3 replacement ear tips that explicitly identify the correct generation and size. Do not assume an accessory listing for another AirPods Pro generation is compatible; check the seller’s model specification carefully.
Durability for exercise
AirPods Pro 3 carry an IP57 rating for dust, sweat, and water resistance during non-water sports and exercise. AirPods 4 and AirPods 4 with ANC are rated IP54. The ratings make the Pro 3 the better fit for frequent workouts, but IP57 does not make the earbuds waterproof or suitable for swimming.

- Powerful Bass: soundcore P20i true wireless earbuds have oversized 10mm drivers that deliver powerful sound with boosted bass so you can lose yourself in your favorite songs.
- Personalized Listening Experience: Use the soundcore app to customize the controls and choose from 22 EQ presets. With "Find My Earbuds", a lost earbud can emit noise to help you locate it.
- Long Playtime, Fast Charging: Get 10 hours of battery life on a single charge with a case that extends it to 30 hours. If P20i true wireless earbuds are low on power, a quick 10-minute charge will give you 2 hours of playtime.
- Portable On-the-Go Design: soundcore P20i true wireless earbuds and the charging case are compact and lightweight with a lanyard attached. It's small enough to slip in your pocket, or clip on your bag or keys–so you never worry about space.
- AI-Enhanced Clear Calls: 2 built-in mics and an AI algorithm work together to pick up your voice so that you never have to shout over the phone.
Apple says resistance is not permanent. None of these ratings removes the need to keep the earbuds and charging case dry, and Apple specifically warns that the earbuds or case should not be charged while wet.

Workout heart-rate sensing and hearing features
AirPods Pro 3 add a heart-rate sensor that works with the Fitness app and compatible third-party apps when paired with an iPhone running iOS 26 or later. It is a workout-tracking feature, not a general-purpose medical heart monitor.
The Pro 3 also supports Hearing Test, Hearing Aid, Automatic Conversation Boost when the Hearing Aid feature is in use, and Hearing Protection. Availability depends on compatible hardware, software, age, region, and language. Apple says Hearing Aid is intended for adults with perceived mild to moderate hearing loss and has received FDA authorization. These functions should not be presented as a substitute for professional hearing evaluation or care.
AirPods 4 with ANC versus AirPods Pro 3
This is the most important decision in the current lineup because both models target people who want compact earbuds with noise control and Apple-device integration.
| Choose AirPods 4 with ANC if… | Choose AirPods Pro 3 if… |
|---|---|
| You dislike silicone ear tips or want an open fit. | You are comfortable with a sealed in-ear fit. |
| You want ANC for $179. | You want Apple’s strongest published in-ear ANC claim. |
| You want to spend $70 less than the Pro 3. | You value five tip sizes and stronger passive isolation. |
| You want Adaptive Audio, Transparency mode, and Conversation Awareness without moving to in-ear tips. | You want IP57 resistance, workout heart-rate sensing, and the Pro hearing features. |
| You want a case that supports USB-C, Qi-certified wireless charging, and Apple Watch charging. | You want the Pro 3’s longer single-charge ANC rating and MagSafe Charging Case. |
The AirPods 4 ANC model is not merely a cheaper Pro with fewer accessories. Its open fit is its central reason to buy. It may be preferable for people who want to remain more aware of their surroundings or cannot tolerate silicone tips, but the absence of a physical seal generally limits passive isolation compared with AirPods Pro 3.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsBoth models support Apple’s H2-generation feature set, including Personalized Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking, and both support Live Translation when paired with the required Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone and software. Neither model’s advanced features should be assumed to work in full on every phone or operating system.
What standard AirPods 4 leave out—and retain
Standard AirPods 4 are the straightforward choice when ANC is not important. They use the same general open-fit approach as the ANC version and retain the H2 chip, Voice Isolation, Personalized Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking, Adaptive EQ, and Siri interactions.

- JBL Deep Bass Sound: Get the most from your mixes with high-quality audio from secure, reliable earbuds with 8mm drivers featuring JBL Deep Bass Sound
- Comfortable fit: The ergonomic, stick-closed design of the JBL Vibe Beam fits so comfortably you may forget you're wearing them. The closed design excludes external sounds, enhancing the bass performance
- Up to 32 (8h + 24h) hours of battery life and speed charging: With 8 hours of battery life in the earbuds and 24 in the case, the JBL Vibe Beam provide all-day audio. When you need more power, you can speed charge an extra two hours in just 10 minutes.
- Hands-free calls with VoiceAware: When you're making hands-free stereo calls on the go, VoiceAware lets you balance how much of your own voice you hear while talking with others
- Water and dust resistant: From the beach to the bike trail, the IP54-certified earbuds and IPX2 charging case are water and dust resistant for all-day experiences
The omissions are significant but easy to understand: standard AirPods 4 do not provide Active Noise Cancellation, Adaptive Audio, Transparency mode, or Conversation Awareness. Their standard charging case is USB-C only rather than wireless-charge compatible.
Apple rates the earbuds for up to five hours of listening on one charge and up to 30 hours with the USB-C charging case. That makes them a sensible low-complexity option for calls, podcasts, music, and general phone use when the buyer does not need commuting noise control or wireless charging.
Do not buy standard AirPods 4 expecting a software update to add ANC. ANC is a hardware-dependent feature and belongs to the AirPods 4 with ANC, AirPods Pro 3, and AirPods Max 2 models in this lineup.
AirPods Max 2 is a different category
AirPods Max 2 are not simply larger AirPods Pro 3. They are $549 over-ear headphones with an H2 chip in each ear cup, weighing 386.2 grams including the cushions. Their strengths are the larger over-ear format, long battery life, and wired USB-C capabilities—not pocketability or workout use.
Max 2 support ANC, Adaptive Audio, Transparency mode, Conversation Awareness, Voice Isolation, Personalized Volume, Loud Sound Reduction, Personalized Spatial Audio, Adaptive EQ, and studio-quality audio recording. Apple rates them for up to 20 hours of listening with ANC enabled, and says a five-minute charge provides about 1.5 hours of listening.
USB-C lossless and low-latency audio
The feature that most clearly separates Max 2 from the earbuds is wired USB-C audio. With a wired USB-C connection and compatible content from supported apps or services, Max 2 support lossless and ultra-low-latency audio. That makes them more relevant to listeners who edit audio, play games, monitor sound, or want a wired listening option than to buyers primarily seeking small travel earbuds.

AirPods Pro 3 use a MagSafe Charging Case, while Max 2 charge over USB-C. If you need replacements or an additional setup, choose a USB-C cable and compatible wireless charger only after checking the exact charging method for your model.

Max 2 can be the better purchase if you specifically want over-ear headphones, wired USB-C lossless or low-latency audio, and up to 20 hours of ANC listening. They are a poor substitute for Pro 3 if the priority is exercise, minimum weight, or carrying earbuds in a pocket.
Battery life and charging: the practical differences
Battery ratings are not directly comparable because Apple gives different figures depending on ANC, Spatial Audio, heart-rate sensing, and hearing modes.
- AirPods 4: up to five hours of listening per charge and up to 30 hours with the USB-C case.
- AirPods Pro 3: up to eight hours with ANC enabled; up to 7.5 hours with Spatial Audio and head tracking enabled; up to 6.5 hours when heart-rate sensing is used during workouts; and up to 10 hours in Transparency mode while using the Hearing Aid feature. With the MagSafe Charging Case, Apple lists up to 24 hours with ANC enabled.
- AirPods Max 2: up to 20 hours with ANC enabled. A five-minute charge provides about 1.5 hours of listening according to Apple.
- AirPods 4 with ANC: use Apple’s current specification for the exact battery figure for the selected mode, since ANC and other features change the result.
The Pro 3 therefore has the strongest published single-charge earbud figure with ANC among the in-ear models in this comparison, while Max 2 offers the longest single-charge headline overall. Standard AirPods 4 offer a simpler, predictable case-and-earbud arrangement but give up wireless charging and ANC.
Apple features and compatibility caveats
All four models can function as Bluetooth headphones with non-Apple devices, but Apple says functionality may be limited. The complete feature set depends on the paired Apple device, operating-system version, firmware, supported app, language, and region.
Spatial Audio
Personalized Spatial Audio requires compatible hardware and software. Creating a personalized profile requires an iPhone with a TrueDepth camera. Buying a newer AirPods model alone does not guarantee that every Spatial Audio feature will be available from every phone, app, or media service.
Live Translation
Live Translation is not a hardware-only AirPods feature. AirPods Pro 3 and AirPods 4 with ANC require an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone running iOS 26 or later. AirPods Max 2 require an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone running iOS 26.4 or later.
Apple labels Live Translation as available in beta, and language and regional availability can vary. It should not be treated as a universal translation system that works offline, in every country, or with every language.

Hearing features
The hearing-health features are specific to AirPods Pro 3 in this current comparison and come with eligibility and availability conditions. They may require a compatible iPhone or other Apple hardware, current software, and supported language or region. Hearing Protection, Hearing Test, and Hearing Aid address different needs; none should be interpreted as proof that the earbuds replace an audiologist or physician.
Which AirPods should you buy?
- Buy AirPods Pro 3 if you want the best current in-ear package, need the strongest published in-ear ANC claim, exercise regularly, want multiple ear-tip sizes, or are interested in Apple’s hearing and workout features. Choose them only if you are comfortable with a sealed silicone-tip fit.
- Buy AirPods 4 with ANC if you want noise cancellation but dislike in-ear tips. At $179, they are $70 below the Pro 3 and preserve much of the Apple ecosystem experience. Accept that the open fit generally offers less passive isolation.
- Buy AirPods 4 if you want the simplest current AirPods and do not need ANC or wireless charging. They retain useful H2-based features and offer up to 30 hours with the case.
- Buy AirPods Max 2 if you specifically want over-ear headphones, USB-C lossless or ultra-low-latency wired audio, long listening sessions, and the Max form factor. Do not choose them as a direct Pro 3 alternative if portability or exercise matters most.
Claims worth treating carefully
- Apple’s Pro 3 ANC figures are manufacturer claims under a stated test methodology, not independent test results.
- IP57 and IP54 are resistance ratings, not promises that the products are waterproof. Do not swim with them or charge them while wet.
- AirPods Pro 3 hearing features do not replace professional hearing care.
- Live Translation is beta-dependent and restricted by compatible hardware, software, language, and region.
- Fit, comfort, sound quality, and microphone performance cannot be ranked definitively from Apple’s specifications alone. Those judgments require clearly labeled independent testing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are AirPods Pro 3 better than AirPods 4 with ANC?
No. AirPods Pro 3 use sealed silicone ear tips in five sizes, while AirPods 4 and AirPods 4 with ANC use an open-fit design without listed silicone tips. AirPods 4 with ANC can be preferable if you dislike the plugged-up feeling of in-ear earbuds, although an open fit generally provides less passive isolation.
Are AirPods Pro 3 waterproof?
No. AirPods Pro 3 have an IP57 dust, sweat, and water-resistance rating, but that does not make them waterproof or suitable for swimming. Apple also advises against charging the earbuds or case while wet. Resistance can diminish over time.
Which current AirPods models have noise cancellation?
Only AirPods 4 with ANC, AirPods Pro 3, and AirPods Max 2 include Active Noise Cancellation in this current lineup. Standard AirPods 4 do not have ANC.
Recommended Free Tools
Do AirPods Pro 3 measure heart rate?
AirPods Pro 3 support workout heart-rate sensing through the Fitness app and compatible third-party apps with an iPhone running iOS 26 or later. This is workout tracking, not a general-purpose medical heart monitor.
Do AirPods work with Android and other non-Apple devices?
All four can work as Bluetooth headphones with non-Apple devices, but Apple says functionality may be limited. Features such as Personalized Spatial Audio, Live Translation, and hearing tools require particular Apple hardware, software, apps, languages, or regions.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: AirPods Pro 3 are the best overall current in-ear AirPods if you want a sealed fit and the fullest feature set. AirPods 4 with ANC are the smarter value for buyers who prefer an open fit, while standard AirPods 4 make sense when ANC and wireless charging are unnecessary. AirPods Max 2 deserves consideration only if you want over-ear headphones and wired USB-C audio.
