Australian watch collectors helped shape a 75-piece TAG Heuer Carrera, reference CBS221E.FC6613, by steering its design toward mateship and the brand’s racing history rather than overt national symbols. The result pairs cues from two historic Heuer watches with the modern 39 mm Carrera Glassbox. TAG Heuer’s Australian product page now lists the limited edition as discontinued.
How the Australian collector collaboration began
According to Time+Tide’s December 2025 account, discussions began in Sydney in 2023, around the Carrera’s 60th-anniversary period. Australian collectors met Nicholas Biebuyck, TAG Heuer’s Global Heritage Director, and shared their interest in the brand’s history and craftsmanship. The reporting describes that exchange as the spark for a project combining TAG Heuer heritage with local input.

Paxton Wong, a collector and founder of Australian watch fair WatchFest, says the group explored several possible Australian themes, including opals, pearls and coastal imagery. After community outreach and discussion, the group settled on mateship as the idea that best expressed its connection to Australia. Wong linked that theme to the friendships Jack Heuer developed with racing drivers, including Jo Siffert and Ronnie Peterson. The project was eventually approved for 2025, according to Time+Tide.
MADE Journal’s interview with Wong adds that his son Brandon helped prepare a design render. That detail comes from the interview account; it is not a published technical record of TAG Heuer’s design process.

Why mateship shaped the design
The group chose a subtler expression of Australian identity than a flag, animal or landscape motif. Wong described the direction this way: “At its heart was the idea of mateship – something we all relate to as Aussies.” The design connects that local idea to relationships in TAG Heuer’s own racing history, making the watch’s Australian character more about shared stories than decoration.
Biebuyck called the release “a testament to the power of collaboration and the deep passion of Australia’s watch-collecting community,” as quoted by Time+Tide. The account presents the collectors as contributors to the concept and design direction; it does not establish that they controlled every technical or production decision.
The historic watches behind the Carrera Australian Limited Edition
Time+Tide describes the visual recipe as a blend of the Heuer Autavia 1163T “Jo Siffert” and the Carrera 1158 CHN “Success Watch.” MADE Journal likewise connects the watch to those models and to the relationships around them: Siffert’s association with the Autavia and the 1158 CHN that Jack Heuer gave to Ronnie Peterson.

The contemporary execution uses a silver Côtes de Genève-style dial, black chronograph subdials and blue details in a 39 mm steel Glassbox case. TAG Heuer’s Carrera history explains that modern Glassbox models use a domed sapphire crystal and place the tachymeter scale beneath the glass, giving the dial a distinct, curved presentation.

The wider Carrera story reaches back to 1962, when Jack Heuer heard about the Carrera Panamericana from the parents of Mexican racing drivers Ricardo and Pedro Rodríguez at Sebring. TAG Heuer says the first Carrera, reference 2447, arrived in 1963. The brand dates the introduction of Calibre 11 to 1969 and says it appeared in the Carrera as well as other models.

Original release and availability today
Time+Tide reported that the 75-piece edition was offered in Australia and New Zealand through boutiques and online, with an original launch price of A$11,800. Those are launch-era details reported in December 2025, not a statement of current stock or resale value. TAG Heuer’s Australian product page currently labels CBS221E.FC6613 “This product is discontinued.” The available sources do not establish its present availability through other sellers.
The watch’s limited run and community involvement make it a distinctive chapter in the Carrera’s history, but the edition size alone says nothing about demand or market value. Its clearest significance is the way collectors helped translate a local idea—mateship—into design choices grounded in the brand’s racing past.
