What happened to Cody Rhodes’ dad’s Rolex?
Dusty Rhodes pawned the watch to help fund Cody’s acting studies in Los Angeles, according to Cody’s account at the post-WrestleMania press conference. After Cody won the championship in the WrestleMania XL Night Two main event, Bruce Prichard, Triple H (Paul Levesque) and Nick Khan presented him with the watch backstage. USA Network’s account quotes Cody saying: “It’s the same watch my dad had that he pawned so he could go to acting school.”

Some coverage described the gift differently: ESPN’s 2025 video description says Triple H gave Rhodes a watch identical to his father’s. That retelling appeared on April 3, 2025, more than a year after the reunion. ESPN’s description differs from Cody’s own statement and other accounts identifying it as the same watch.
Why the watch mattered to Cody
Rhodes recalled trying on his father’s watch as a child and imagining it might someday be passed down to him. In a GQ interview, he said trying it on was “pretty much an everyday thing.” Learning that the watch had been pawned made its return after his championship win especially meaningful: a treasured family object came back to him at a major moment in his own life.

What kind of Rolex was it?
Reports identify the watch as a gold Rolex Datejust. Time+Tide Watches visually estimates that it is an 18-karat yellow-gold Datejust 36, and suggests reference 16238 or 116238 as possibilities. Those reference numbers are guesses, not confirmed identifications. The watch report does not establish a serial number or production year, so the exact model cannot be stated with certainty.
Was it really Dusty Rhodes’ watch?
Cody said it was the same watch his father had pawned. That first-person account supports identifying the returned watch as Dusty’s Rolex, rather than merely a similar replacement. The specific Datejust reference, however, remains unconfirmed; the visual estimate should not be mistaken for a verified model identification.

The available reporting does not establish the watch’s serial number, production year or current market value. Nor does it indicate that the reunited watch is for sale. Its significance in this story is its family history, not a verified price or collector specification.
