The Citizen Series 8 GMT reference NB6030-59L is a Traveller GMT: its local hour hand can jump independently in one-hour steps, while the 24-hour hand keeps displaying a second time zone. Citizen says its rotating bezel can also be used to check a third. The model combines that travel-focused setup with a 41 mm steel case, 10-bar water resistance and an estimated 50-hour power reserve. This guide focuses on the NB6030-59L, which Citizen US identifies as the Series 8 880 GMT; the title alone does not identify the reference handled in any particular hands-on review.
How does the Citizen Series 8 GMT work?
The NB6030-59L uses Citizen Cal. 9054, a mechanical movement with automatic and hand winding. Citizen describes its GMT arrangement as a Traveller GMT: the local-time hour hand moves independently in one-hour increments, without moving the minute, seconds or 24-hour hands. When crossing time zones, the wearer can adjust local time while leaving the reference time displayed by the GMT hand intact. Citizen’s Series 8 Cal. 9054 page describes this movement behavior.
The GMT hand reads against the 24-hour scale to show a second time zone. Citizen Japan says the bidirectional rotating bezel can be used to check a third city or time zone. These are manufacturer-described functions; they do not establish how easy the bezel is to operate or read in person.
What are the NB6030-59L’s specifications?
| Specification | Citizen NB6030-59L |
|---|---|
| Movement | Cal. 9054; automatic and manual winding; 24 jewels; 28,800 vibrations per hour |
| Functions | Traveller GMT, date, hacking seconds; transparent case back |

These figures come from Citizen US, Citizen’s global Series 8 page and Citizen Japan’s NB6030-59L listing. Citizen Japan notes that the case width excludes the crown and crown guard. The power reserve is an estimate, and the stated accuracy is not a guarantee of an individual watch’s daily result: Citizen says actual performance varies with conditions including wearing time, position, wrist motion and winding.

What does it look and feel like to wear?
The documented reference pairs a steel bracelet and case with a sapphire crystal and a 24-hour GMT display. Its 41 mm width and 13.5 mm thickness give a useful starting point for comparing it with watches you already own, but dimensions alone cannot establish wrist comfort or how the case wears. The manufacturer specifications do not provide independent assessment of bracelet quality, finishing in person, bezel action or dial legibility under real-world conditions.
Citizen’s US page calls the Series 8 GMT “the perfect companion from daily wear to spirited travel and everything in-between.” That is the manufacturer’s product description, not an independent evaluation. Citizen US product page

Citizen introduced its first Series 8 GMT models in 2023, including the NB6030-59L. The launch prices were market-specific and are historical rather than current universal prices:
- Citizen Japan currently displays ¥220,000 including tax for the NB6030-59L on its Japan-market product listing.

Who should consider the NB6030-59L?
The movement’s independently adjustable local hour hand is the defining practical feature for someone who regularly changes time zones and wants a second time zone to remain displayed. Before buying, compare the watch’s dimensions with your wrist and existing watches, and try it on if possible: the available manufacturer specifications cannot settle questions of fit or comfort. Also compare GMT behavior, water and magnetic resistance, reserve, stated accuracy and local service arrangements against the specific alternatives you are considering. The sources cited here document Citizen’s product specifications, not a full competitor comparison or independent timekeeping test.
