Tomas Rosputinsky had that reaction when he found one on a Miramar chronograph in a box of watches he had nearly written off. The underside read “WAB, Made In England, Stainless Steel, Rolex.” Its markings led him to a plausible history—but not proof of when or to which watch the bracelet originally belonged.
The bracelet hiding in the “junk” box
Rosputinsky bought a group of watches after spotting a hard-to-find Nicolet chronograph. The other watches became collateral purchases, set aside in a box. When he returned to them, he picked up a Miramar chronograph and turned it over to remove its bracelet and reach the movement.
That was when he noticed the Rolex name. The coronet looked different from the stamps on his own Rolex bracelets, so his first thought was that the bracelet was fake. Instead, the underside carried four clues: “WAB, Made In England, Stainless Steel, Rolex.”
In his May 2023 account for Fratello, Rosputinsky says collector research pointed to WAB as Watch Accessories Birmingham, an English bracelet maker associated in collector accounts with Oscar Winter, Hans Wilsdorf and Rolex UK. That history makes an English-made Rolex-marked bracelet plausible; it does not establish that every WAB bracelet was made for Rolex or originally fitted to one.

What WAB does—and does not—tell you
WAB is commonly expanded as Watch Accessories Birmingham in collector discussions. A 2015 Rolex Forums thread about the marking connects the name with Oscar Winter and repeats the idea that Rolex sourced some bracelets outside Switzerland. One participant, Paul, offered this explanation: “As I understand it, Rolex sourced bracelets from outside Switzerland to get around tariffs that were levied on fully complete watches.” That is a forum participant’s account, not an official Rolex statement or company record.
The thread also cautions that a WAB bracelet could have been a general WAB product rather than a bracelet made specifically for Rolex; some, participants say, may have been sold with Rolex watches. So “WAB” and “Rolex” together are evidence worth investigating, not a standalone authenticity test or proof of original fitment.

How Rosputinsky used the bracelet
Rosputinsky reports that the bracelet’s 17 mm end links, stamped “REG875088,” fit his Gruen Airflight. That is one reported fit, not a compatibility rule for other Gruen watches or cases.
He describes his own bracelet as light, compact and close-wearing, with little stretch. His friend FlexNew summed up its comfort this way: “They are really comfortable because they easily wrap around the wrist.” Rosputinsky also attributes this reaction to vintage Rolex expert Eric Wind: “They are “very real and cool!”” These are comments about this example, not a guarantee that every bracelet with similar markings has the same construction or condition.

What can—and cannot—be dated or valued
Rosputinsky places WAB Rolex bracelets broadly between the 1950s and the mid-1960s, but he does not claim a precise production range or production volume. As he puts it: “I don’t have any precise info on the production range or volumes.” The available collector discussion does not settle exact start and end dates, quantities, or whether this bracelet originally came on the Miramar—or on a Rolex.
In May 2023, Rosputinsky estimated that a WAB bracelet might be worth around $800 to $1,500 depending on condition. Treat that as his dated estimate, not a current appraisal or a confirmed sale price; condition, completeness and provenance can materially affect what a particular example is worth.

How to assess an unfamiliar WAB bracelet
A 2026 overview from Watch & Bullion on Rolex bracelets made outside Switzerland recommends judging regional bracelets in context rather than by one stamp. For a particular bracelet, compare:
- Watch reference, period and market: Does the bracelet make sense for the watch’s approximate age and intended market?
- Construction and material: Do the links, clasp and stated metal agree with documented examples from the relevant period?
- Clasp and end-link markings: Check the exact lettering, numbers and placement against examples—not just whether a Rolex name or coronet appears.
- Condition and repairs: Stretch, wear, replacement links and later repairs can change both appearance and value.
- Provenance: Papers, retailer history or old photographs may help establish a bracelet’s history, though they do not replace examination.
Bracelets can be replaced or repaired over a watch’s life, and the 2026 overview does not authenticate Rosputinsky’s individual example. If you are considering removing a valuable vintage bracelet for inspection, take care: his story does not identify the tool he used, and it is not a reason to dismantle a watch without the right experience.
The appeal of Rosputinsky’s find is the reversal: a bracelet that initially looked wrong had markings consistent with a lesser-known regional history. That context is enough to make a WAB-marked bracelet interesting. It is not enough, by itself, to certify authenticity, establish original pairing or set a current price.
