Karel Bachand is the maker associated with a project to create a homage to Urwerk’s UR-202, begun in December 2012 and featured by aBlogtoWatch in 2014. A later profile says he first encountered the UR-202 while studying mechanical engineering and links the project to his later watchmaking work. The aBlogtoWatch feature is identified in search results, but its page was inaccessible; the available material therefore does not support a detailed reconstruction of how he built the watch.
That distinction matters. There is no verified public figure here for the homage’s price, build time, accuracy, or component count, and no reliable account of its movement, materials, machining, or printing. Those are unknowns, not specifications that can be inferred from the original UR-202.
Why the original UR-202 is difficult to imitate
Urwerk’s UR-202 combines a satellite-hour display with telescopic minute hands, plus moon-phase and day/night indications. Rather than rotating conventional hands around a dial, its central carousel carries hour satellites across the minute track. As a satellite travels, its telescopic hand extends or retracts to follow the minutes. A transporter guided by a cam controls that change in length.

Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie (FHH) describes three revolving hour satellites and a minute track divided into sectors. In FHH’s account, the telescopic hands extend to 4.8 mm and retract to 1.8 mm. The organization also says the carousel requires machining to within 3 microns. Those are descriptions of the original UR-202, not measured specifications of Bachand’s homage.
How the UR-202’s turbine winding system works
The UR-202 also has an unusual automatic-winding regulator. Two miniature turbines are coupled to the winding rotor; airflow resistance changes how freely the rotor can turn. URWERK calls this its “world’s first twin turbine regulation,” a manufacturer’s description of the system.

Together, the displays and winding regulator make the UR-202 more than a watch with an unconventional dial: both its time indication and its energy management depend on specialized mechanical systems.
Original UR-202 specifications—and an important dimension discrepancy
The following figures describe the original watch, not the homage. URWERK’s technical PDF lists a 46.6 mm first case dimension, while its historical page gives 45.6 mm. The sources do not explain the difference, so each figure is kept attributed to its source rather than reconciled.

What the homage says—and does not say—about Bachand’s later work
A later profile connects Bachand’s interest in the UR-202 to his subsequent watchmaking work, including the Barrelhand P1. That later watch is a separate project: the profile describes its linear minutes and Geneva-wheel hour mechanism. Those details should not be transferred to the UR-202 homage, whose construction remains undocumented in the accessible accounts.
The defensible takeaway is that Bachand undertook a project inspired by a technically distinctive watch, not that its exact construction or performance is established. Without a verified build record, claims about how closely the homage reproduces the UR-202—or what methods made it possible—would go beyond the available evidence.
