The Seiko SLA033 is a modern, limited-edition re-creation of the 1970 diver design associated with the 6105-8110 “Captain Willard.” It preserves the defining crown-at-4-o’clock case design, but Seiko describes the re-creation as slightly larger and gives it updated specifications, including a 200 m diver’s rating. The available official specifications document the SLA033 in detail; they do not establish a like-for-like technical comparison with the vintage 6105-8110.
How the SLA033 relates to the 6105-8110
Seiko presents the SLA033 as a “1970 Diver’s Re-creation Limited Edition,” drawing on the design of its 1970 diver. The most distinctive shared design feature is the crown at 4 o’clock, protected by an extension of the case. In its 2019 launch release, Seiko said that arrangement was central to the original design’s character and described the SLA033 as a slightly larger re-creation with updated technology. Seiko’s official history says the original 1970 diver was rated to 150 m. That historical account gives useful context, but it is not a detailed specification sheet for the 6105-8110. Seiko also recounts that adventurer Naomi Uemura wore the watch on an 18-month, 12,000 km solo dog-sled journey from Greenland to Alaska. These are Seiko’s historical descriptions, not independent testing or a guarantee about any surviving watch.

What the SLA033 specifications mean for wear and use
Size and fit
The SLA033 measures 45.0 mm across, 13.0 mm thick and 49.7 mm from lug to lug, according to Seiko’s UK product page. Those figures, rather than diameter alone, are the useful starting point when considering fit; wrist shape and personal preference still matter. Its 19 mm lug spacing is a specific measurement for the SLA033. It does not establish strap compatibility for the vintage 6105-8110, and not every replacement strap of that width is necessarily compatible.

Movement and stated performance
Seiko specifies its caliber 8L35 as an automatic movement with manual winding, a stated accuracy range of +15 to -10 seconds per day, approximately 50 hours of power reserve and 26 jewels. These figures describe the manufacturer’s specifications. They do not predict the timekeeping or condition of a particular watch after years of use.
Construction and water resistance
The SLA033 has a dual-curved sapphire crystal with an inner anti-reflective coating, LumiBrite on the hands and indexes, a unidirectional rotating bezel, a screw-down crown and a screw case back. Seiko lists a silicone band and a 200 m / 660 ft diver’s water-resistance rating. The rating is a product specification, not a substitute for checking the condition and water resistance of an individual watch before exposure to water.

Choose the SLA033 if you want documented modern specifications
The SLA033 is the clearer choice for someone who wants Seiko-published dimensions and movement details, sapphire crystal, a modern 200 m diver’s rating, and the 1970 design in a limited modern edition. Seiko announced a 2,500-piece run, so any present-day listing should be checked for exact model identity, availability, condition and seller reliability rather than assumed to represent current official stock.
Consider the 6105-8110 if the original watch is the point
The vintage model offers the appeal of owning an original rather than a re-creation. But the official sources cited here do not establish its detailed factory specifications or the condition of any particular example. Before buying, have a specialist assess the specific watch’s originality, service history and condition. Do not infer its performance or water resistance from the model name or from Seiko’s historical description alone.
Quick Recap
What to verify before buying either watch
- For an SLA033: confirm the reference and included components, inspect the watch’s condition, and check the seller’s terms and documentation. Seiko’s product page is the reference for the manufacturer’s listed specifications, not proof that a particular listing or watch is authentic.
- For a 6105-8110: seek model-specific documentation and an independent assessment of the individual watch. Ask about originality, service work and whether its water resistance has been tested; age alone does not establish that it is inferior, but historical specifications cannot establish its present condition.
- For a replacement strap: use the SLA033’s 19 mm lug measurement only as a starting point, then confirm fit with the seller. Do not transfer that measurement to the 6105-8110.
