Eligible Wear OS Galaxy Watches get up to four years of One UI Watch and Wear OS upgrades under Samsung’s published policy. Older Tizen-based Galaxy smartwatches had a separate commitment of at least three years of software support after launch. Neither statement sets an exact security-patch end date for every watch: Samsung’s four-year figure concerns operating-system upgrades, and the sources do not establish a universal security-update term for Galaxy Watches.
What Samsung’s support commitments cover
Wear OS Galaxy Watches: up to four years of upgrades
In 2022, Samsung said eligible watches would receive up to four years of One UI Watch and Wear OS upgrades. Its announcement named the Galaxy Watch4, Galaxy Watch4 Classic, and upcoming Galaxy Watch series devices. “Up to” is a limit, not a guarantee that every eligible model receives every upgrade or follows the same schedule. Samsung says availability and timing can vary by model and other factors. Samsung’s 2022 announcement

Tizen Galaxy Watches: at least three years of software support
For customers who already owned Tizen OS-based Galaxy smartwatches, Samsung said in 2021 that it would provide at least three years of software support after product launch. This is a separate legacy commitment; it should not be added to or treated as the same policy as the Wear OS upgrade term. Samsung’s 2021 statement
How long do Galaxy Watches get security updates?
Samsung’s four-year watch statement is about One UI Watch and Wear OS upgrades; it does not give a separate security-patch end date. Samsung’s 2022 announcement also discusses up to five years of security updates for selected Galaxy devices, but the eligible-device list for that term names phones and tablets, not Galaxy Watches. It therefore does not establish a five-year security-update promise for watches.

How to check whether your Galaxy Watch has an update
- On a connected Android phone: open Galaxy Wearable, select Watch settings, then Watch software update, and tap Download and install if an update is available.
- On a Wear OS watch: open Settings on the watch and select Software update.
- Charge the watch before checking or installing. Samsung notes that some watches may require at least 30% battery charge.
Samsung says Galaxy Watch3 and newer owners can use the Galaxy Wearable update setting. Menu labels and screens can vary by watch, phone, and software version. See Samsung’s smartwatch software update instructions.

How to judge support for your specific model
Use the exact model and regional variant rather than assuming every watch in a generation has the same update history. Samsung Japan’s latest-version table lists model-specific software and last-update information. Its stated latest update date is August 24, 2026, so it is a dated Japan-region status snapshot—not a forecast, a support-duration guarantee, or a statement of security support elsewhere. - Identify whether the watch runs Tizen or Wear OS.
- Use Samsung’s relevant policy wording for that platform generation: up to four years of upgrades for eligible Wear OS watches, or at least three years of software support after launch for the stated Tizen group.
- Check the model’s latest observed update for your region, while keeping in mind that a last-update date does not itself establish when support ends.
- Look for a model- and region-specific security end date. If Samsung has not published one, the available information does not support an exact date.
When should you consider replacing the watch?
Base the decision on your model’s actual update status and whether it still meets your needs—not on an assumed security end date. If your watch no longer receives updates, weigh that alongside its condition and the features you rely on. A newer model may have a different support history, but its release generation alone does not prove a particular security-patch end date.
