What is the Conquest V.H.P. GMT Flash Setting?
Longines announced the model on 9 September 2018 as an addition to its Conquest V.H.P. “Very High Precision” quartz family, following three-hand and chronograph versions. The product announcement page is dated 10 September 2018. Longines’ launch release and its product announcement describe a quartz GMT watch intended to display a second time zone.

Its defining feature is not a different type of timekeeping signal such as GPS. It is Longines’ flash-pulse method for sending setting information from a smartphone to the watch.
How does Flash Setting work?
According to Longines’ 9 September 2018 launch announcement, the smartphone emits flash pulses that communicate setting information to the watch. Longines said: “This innovative function requires no external connection, such as Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.” That is the manufacturer’s description of the mechanism, not an independent performance test.

In practical terms, the idea is to use the phone’s light rather than a wireless connection to transmit the setting. The cited announcement does not establish current app availability, compatibility with present-day phones, or ongoing software support. It is therefore safest to treat Flash Setting as a feature documented at launch, not assume the original phone-based workflow will still work with a device you own.
Can you change the time zone without the app?
Yes. Longines says the time zone can be changed manually as well as through Flash Setting. The launch material establishes that manual adjustment is an option, although it does not provide detailed crown or button instructions in the cited announcement. For operating steps, use the manual that matches the exact reference and calibre rather than assume one procedure applies to every V.H.P. GMT.

What the V.H.P. collection claims about resynchronization
In its 9 March 2017 release for the broader Conquest V.H.P. collection, Longines described an in-built system that resynchronizes the hands after shock or magnetic exposure. This is a collection-level manufacturer claim; it should not be read as independent verification of performance in every GMT Flash Setting reference. The official materials cited here do not establish a quantified annual accuracy figure for this GMT model, so a specific deviation should not be inferred from general V.H.P. descriptions.

Battery and care guidance: confirm the calibre first
Longines’ official L289 instruction manual, whose footer reads 2021, gives battery and care instructions for watches using that calibre. Do not apply these steps to an individual GMT watch until its movement or reference is confirmed.

- The manual says the end-of-life battery indication is a hand jumping once every five seconds.
- After approximately six months in that mode, the watch switches to end-of-energy mode, with the hands stopped at 12 o’clock.
- If battery replacement takes place after the stated period, the manual says an approved watchmaker must program the perpetual calendar.
Water resistance and opening the watch
The same manual recommends an annual water-resistance check at an approved Longines service centre. It notes that aged, dried gaskets or an accidental shock to the crown can affect water resistance, and advises owners not to open the watch themselves. These are Longines’ maintenance recommendations in the L289 manual.
