The connection is not identical: one points to a specific earlier model and its Seastar lineage; the other uses a period aesthetic as its starting point.
Two ways Tissot makes history visible
Tissot’s own collection descriptions show that heritage can mean either returning to a particular design or creating a watch around the visual character of an era. PRX and Heritage 1938 illustrate those approaches; they do not establish that every current Tissot collection is archival or history-led.
| Collection | Historical reference | What carries forward | What is specific to the current watch |
|---|---|---|---|
| PRX | A design introduced in 1978 as part of the Seastar family of water-resistant models, according to Tissot’s PRX history article. | The collection’s integrated case-and-bracelet design, which Tissot identifies as part of the re-edition. | The current collection includes multiple sizes and movement types; there is no single specification that describes every PRX. Tissot’s current PRX collection |
| Heritage 1938 | The aesthetics of the late 1930s, rather than one specifically identified earlier model. Tissot calls the collection a revival. Tissot’s Heritage collection | A period-inspired design language and vintage character. | Current materials, dimensions, movement, water resistance and strap options belong to the modern watch, not necessarily the historical inspiration. PRX: a re-edition with a specific 1978 connection
Tissot traces the PRX’s foundation to 1978, when the watch was part of the Seastar line, a family that brought together the brand’s water-resistant models. That gives the present collection a named historical design and a clear place in Tissot’s product history, rather than only a general vintage influence.
The earlier watch’s appeal was not only its outline. Tissot’s account also describes functional aims: its steel case was intended to protect the movement from dust, shock and humidity, and the model had antimagnetic properties. Those details show how the original design was framed in its time; they should not be treated as specifications for every modern PRX.

- Case Size: 45.00 mm, Band Width: 13.95, Case Thickness: 11.76 mm
- Quartz movement, 316L stainless steel case, Index dial type, Date
- Stainless steel strap/bracelet, folding clasp with safety and push-buttons closure
- Water-resistant up to a pressure of 10 bar (100 m / 330 ft)
- 2 Year International Warranty
Tissot describes the current PRX as a re-edition of that emblematic 1978 design, with an integrated case and bracelet. The current collection spans different sizes and movement types, so buyers should check the individual reference rather than infer a specification from the collection name.
Heritage 1938: a period aesthetic, updated for today
Heritage 1938 takes a different route. Tissot describes it as reflecting late-1930s aesthetics, framing the collection as a revival of a period rather than a direct re-creation of one named watch. The brand’s description says: “Reflecting the aesthetics of the late 1930s, this collection resonates with individuals — both men and women — who have a fondness for watchmaking history and value craftsmanship.”

Tissot lists quick-release bracelet options and a 20 mm lug width. These are specifications of that modern reference, not evidence that the original-era inspiration had the same dimensions, materials or performance.

What the two approaches mean for a buyer
- Look for a specific design lineage: PRX is the clearer choice if the appeal is a re-edition tied to a named year, design and Seastar history.
- Look for an era-inspired character: Heritage 1938 is the example to consider if late-1930s styling is the draw, without assuming a one-to-one reproduction of a particular historical reference.
- Separate heritage from specification: Check the exact modern reference for dimensions, movement, materials, water resistance and included or compatible straps. Collection-level history does not make every current model identical.
These examples show different degrees of historical connection, but Tissot’s descriptions do not establish that one is more historically faithful than the other.
