To change the time on a Samsung Galaxy Watch, first check whether it is connected to your phone. A paired watch normally copies the date, time, and time zone from the phone, so you usually need to correct the phone rather than edit the watch directly. On compatible older or temporarily disconnected watches, you may be able to use Settings > General > Date and time on the watch itself.
The exact controls vary by Galaxy Watch generation, operating system, and software version. The steps below cover paired Wear OS watches, older standalone-capable models, time-zone changes, 12-hour and 24-hour display settings, and what to do if the clock remains wrong.
Before you begin: determine how the watch is connected
Look at the watch and your phone to determine whether the watch is currently paired through Bluetooth, connected over Wi-Fi or LTE, or managed in the Galaxy Wearable app.
- If the watch is paired: its clock normally synchronizes with the connected phone. Date and time controls on the watch may be unavailable, or a manual change may be overwritten when synchronization runs.
- If a Wear OS watch is temporarily disconnected: Samsung allows manual date and time changes on certain Wear OS Galaxy Watches while they are disconnected. When the watch reconnects, it synchronizes with the phone again.
- If you have an older standalone-compatible model: the watch may provide its own date, time, and time-zone controls under Settings > General > Date and time.
Galaxy Watch4 and Watch5 series watches require a compatible Android phone for setup, and Wear OS Galaxy Watches are not compatible with iPhones. LTE service can give a compatible model more standalone functionality, but it does not change the basic rule that a paired watch generally takes its time from the phone.

Change the time when your Galaxy Watch is paired
For a connected Galaxy Watch, the phone is the primary source of the clock. Correct the phone first rather than repeatedly trying to edit the watch.
On a Samsung Galaxy phone
- Open Settings.
- Tap General management.
- Tap Date and time.
- Choose the appropriate automatic or manual settings.
With automatic controls enabled, the phone obtains the date and time and usually the time zone from its network or system settings. If those values are wrong, turn off the relevant automatic option and set the date, time, or time zone manually. The labels can differ slightly by phone model and Android version.
After correcting the phone, keep it near the watch and allow the Galaxy Wearable connection time to update. The watch should adopt the corrected clock without requiring a factory reset.

Use the correct time zone instead of simply changing the hour
If you have moved to another region, select the correct time zone rather than adding or subtracting an hour by hand. A time-zone setting that observes daylight saving time can adjust automatically when the seasonal change occurs. A manually altered hour may become wrong again after a network update or daylight-saving transition.
If the phone is showing the wrong time despite automatic settings, check its network connection and verify that the selected region and time zone are correct. Automatic time is convenient, but it can reflect incorrect network information.
Change the clock directly on a disconnected or older watch
On a watch that supports standalone adjustment, open:
Settings > General > Date and time
From there, select the available Date, Time, or Time zone option and follow the on-screen controls.

If Date and time is missing or grayed out, the watch is likely still paired and receiving its clock settings from the phone. Disconnecting solely to make a temporary correction is usually less useful than fixing the phone’s settings.
Older Tizen-based Galaxy Watch models can have different menu wording and different standalone behavior. Samsung does not use one identical path for every generation, so identify the watch model and software version if the menu is not where described above.
Switch between 12-hour and 24-hour time
On a Samsung Galaxy phone, go to:
Settings > General management > Date and time > Use 24-hour format
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTurn Use 24-hour format on for a 24-hour clock or off for a 12-hour clock. A connected watch may follow the phone’s format, although the final presentation can also depend on the watch software and the selected watch face.
Not every watch face provides its own 12-hour/24-hour switch. If the system clock is correct but the display looks different from what you expect, try another face or customize the available time element rather than changing the underlying date and time.
Change how the time looks with a different watch face
A watch face changes how the time is presented; it does not normally correct an incorrect system clock. First verify the phone’s date, time, time zone, and synchronization status.
You can change or customize watch faces from the watch or through the Galaxy Wearable app. Depending on the face, you may be able to change colors, complications, and other displayed elements. The available options vary by face, watch generation, and software version, so a separate 12/24-hour control is not guaranteed.
This is also a natural point to consider a Samsung Galaxy Watch if you are replacing an older device or comparing current models. Buying a newer watch is not required to correct the time, but the current family includes different generations and configurations, so confirm phone compatibility and the operating system before choosing one.

What to do if the Galaxy Watch still shows the wrong time
Work through these checks in order. Stop when the clock is corrected; do not reset the watch before trying the reversible steps.
- Check the phone. Verify the phone’s date, time, time zone, and 12/24-hour preference under Settings > General management > Date and time.
- Check automatic settings. If automatic date/time or automatic time zone is enabled, make sure the phone has a reliable network connection and is receiving correct regional information. If it is not, temporarily disable the incorrect automatic control and enter the correct value manually.
- Refresh the connection. Close and reopen Galaxy Wearable. If necessary, toggle Bluetooth off and on, then wait for the watch to reconnect.
- Restart both devices. Restart the phone and the watch, then check whether the watch synchronizes correctly.
- Install updates. Check for available watch and Galaxy Wearable updates. The exact update path differs, but Galaxy Wearable generally exposes watch software information and updates in an About or watch-settings area.
- Reset only as a last resort. Back up anything important, then consider a factory reset if synchronization remains broken after the earlier steps. A reset erases personal data stored on the watch and requires setup again.
If the watch is powered off or will not reconnect
Charge the watch using a compatible charging dock and a suitable Samsung wall charger for that model. A watch that cannot stay powered on cannot complete reconnection or synchronization. Match the charger and dock to the watch rather than assuming that every Galaxy Watch accessory is interchangeable.
If the watch will not charge, has damaged buttons, or repeatedly disconnects after updating and restarting, the problem may be hardware-related. Consider Samsung support or an authorized repair provider before wiping the device.

Trying to edit a paired watch
On a connected Wear OS model, the date and time controls may be unavailable. Even if a value appears to change, synchronization can immediately overwrite it. Correct the phone instead.
Changing only the hour
This can temporarily hide a wrong time-zone setting. Choose the correct time zone whenever possible, particularly when traveling or when daylight-saving changes are involved.
Blaming the watch face
A different face can change the layout, color, complications, or 12/24-hour presentation. It does not usually fix the underlying system clock. Check synchronization before customizing the face.
Resetting too soon
A factory reset is disruptive and removes watch data. Recheck the phone, refresh Galaxy Wearable, restart both devices, and install updates first.
Choosing bands and chargers for different Galaxy Watch models
If you are customizing the watch while changing its face or replacing worn hardware, verify the exact model and lug system before ordering accessories. Many Galaxy Watch generations use 20 mm bands, but Samsung identifies Galaxy Watch8 and Galaxy Watch Ultra as exceptions with distinct dynamic-lug systems that require model-designed bands.

That means a Galaxy Watch replacement band should not be selected by width alone. Check the watch generation, case size, connector, and lug design. The same caution applies to a charging dock: use a Samsung Galaxy Watch charging dock that is compatible with the specific watch and pair it with an appropriate wall charger. Neither accessory changes the clock, but a correctly matched charger can help when a powered-off watch is unavailable during troubleshooting.
Model and software differences
The menu path and available controls depend on the watch generation and software:
- Wear OS Galaxy Watches: manual date and time changes are restricted while connected to the phone and may be available only after disconnection.
- Older Tizen-based watches: standalone adjustment and menu wording can differ.
- Current Galaxy Watch models: Samsung’s current U.S. catalog includes the Galaxy Watch8 family and references models such as Galaxy Watch8 Classic, Galaxy Watch Ultra, and Galaxy Watch7. Do not assume that a path or accessory for one generation is identical on another.
- Phone compatibility: Galaxy Watch4 and Watch5 series devices require a compatible Android phone for setup, while Wear OS Galaxy Watches do not support iPhone pairing.
If your screen does not match these instructions, check the model name and software version in the watch or Galaxy Wearable app, then use the corresponding Samsung support instructions. The underlying decision remains the same: a paired watch normally follows the phone; a supported disconnected or standalone watch may expose its own clock controls.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why can’t I change the time directly on my Samsung Galaxy Watch?
The watch is probably paired to your phone. Connected Galaxy Watches normally synchronize their date, time, and time zone from the phone, so correct the phone under Settings > General management > Date and time.
Can I manually set the time on a Galaxy Watch without a phone?
Some standalone-compatible models and temporarily disconnected Wear OS Galaxy Watches allow manual changes under Settings > General > Date and time. The options depend on the model and software version. When a Wear OS watch reconnects, it normally synchronizes with the phone again.
How do I change my Samsung watch from 12-hour to 24-hour time?
On a Samsung Galaxy phone, open Settings > General management > Date and time and turn Use 24-hour format on. The watch face may also affect how the time is displayed, but not every face offers its own format control.
Why is my Galaxy Watch one hour ahead or behind?
Check the phone’s time zone and automatic time-zone setting before manually changing the hour. A wrong time zone, network information, or daylight-saving transition can cause the discrepancy.
Will a factory reset fix the wrong time on my Galaxy Watch?
It may help if synchronization or software problems persist, but it should be a last resort. Restart both devices, refresh Galaxy Wearable, and install updates first. A factory reset erases personal data stored on the watch.
The Bottom Line
For a paired Samsung Galaxy Watch, change the phone’s date, time, and time zone—not the watch. Use the watch’s Settings > General > Date and time menu only when your model supports standalone adjustment or has been disconnected as required. If the clock remains wrong, refresh the connection, restart both devices, update the software, and reserve a factory reset for last.
