On your Pixel Watch, swipe down, open Settings > System > System updates, and let the watch check for available software. To see what is already installed, open Settings > System > About > Versions. If an update fails, Google’s documented retry is to reboot the watch, turn Bluetooth off, turn Wi-Fi on, and check for the update again.
Keep the watch on its charger, connected to Wi-Fi, and at least 50% charged for the best update experience. Google says updates typically finish in under an hour, though that is not a guaranteed time for every update.
Check your Pixel Watch’s installed version
- Swipe down on the watch face.
- Tap Settings, then System.
- Tap About, then Versions.
- Check the software version. After an update, this screen also shows the build number and Android security update level.
Check for an available update
- Swipe down on the watch face and tap Settings.
- Tap System, then System updates.
- Wait while the watch checks for software. If no update is available to your watch, it reports that the watch is up to date.
- If an update is offered, follow the on-screen instructions to install it.
This check tells you what is available to your particular watch at that time; it does not establish a universal release schedule.
Prepare before installing
- Connect to Wi-Fi: Google recommends Wi-Fi for the update experience.
- Use the charger: Keep the watch on its charger while it checks and installs.
- Check the battery: Aim for at least 50% charge. Google says that if the battery is below 50%, the watch periodically checks its charge and starts installation automatically once it is over 50%.
- Allow time: Google says updates typically complete in under an hour. The watch cannot be used while installation is underway.
Fix a failed or stuck Pixel Watch update

- Hold the crown and side button together for 20 seconds.
- Wait for the watch to reboot fully.
- Open Settings > Connectivity > Bluetooth and turn Bluetooth off.
- Open Settings > Connectivity > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi on.
- Return to Settings > System > System updates and check again.
This is a documented retry, not a guarantee that an update will install. If the problem persists, contact Google support rather than jumping straight to a factory reset.
System updates and app updates are different
A system update changes watch software; app updates are handled separately. General Wear OS guidance also describes overnight updates when a watch is powered on, charging, and connected to Wi-Fi, and a Play Store route for app updates. Those instructions can vary by manufacturer, device, and software version, so use the Pixel Watch system-update steps above for watch software.

When to consider a factory reset
A factory reset is not a first-line fix for a routine update failure. Google’s Pixel Watch troubleshooting guidance says a reset erases apps, settings, and data. Try the documented reboot and connection steps first, and contact Google support if they do not resolve the issue. Consider resetting only after understanding the data loss and following Google’s instructions.
