Solar watches do not share one universal full-charge signal: depending on the watch, you may need to read an indicator hand, trigger a charge reading with a button, or check the seconds hand. Treat the model’s designated “full” or equivalent reading—not a cross-brand rule—as the answer.
How to check your watch’s charge level
- Find the model or movement number. Check the case, paperwork, or the manufacturer’s support page.
- Open the official manual for that exact model. Look for a section called “Checking the Charge Level,” “Charging Status,” or similar.
- Follow the stated procedure. Some watches show charge on an indicator hand; others require a particular mode or button press before a hand displays the reading.
- Match the reading to the manual’s labels. Identify which position or display means full, adequate, or low for your watch.
- If the reading is low, charge and check again. Follow the manual’s light and temperature guidance, then repeat the same status check.
If the charge indication remains abnormal after following the model’s charging instructions, contact the manufacturer or an authorized watch service provider. The indicators described below do not establish a universal repair diagnosis.
What different solar-watch indicators mean
Casio EDIFICE module 5467: read the indicator hand
The official Casio 5467 manual says the battery-indicator hand shows the watch’s current charge level. Its diagram distinguishes fully charged, charged, low, and dead positions. Use the diagram to interpret the hand rather than assuming a position that applies to another Casio module. The manual also describes a low-power warning in which the second hand jumps at two-second intervals.
Casio EDIFICE module 5560: trigger the reading
For module 5560, the official Casio manual gives a specific check: hold button A for about two seconds to enter Calendar Mode, then press D. The second hand indicates the current charge, with positions for fully charged, charged, and low. Use this sequence only if your watch is confirmed to use module 5560.

Seiko 1B21, 1B22, and 1B32: check seconds-hand intervals
In the cited Seiko instructions for calibers 1B21, 1B22, and 1B32, one-second movement means the watch is sufficiently charged. Two- or five-second movement indicates energy depletion. A stopped hand can also result from power-save mode; check it again after releasing that mode rather than treating a stopped hand alone as proof that the watch is uncharged.
Seiko GPS Solar: look for “middle” or “full”
For the GPS Solar watches covered by its guidance, Seiko’s FAQ says to expose the watch to light until the indicator hand points to “middle” or “full.” It also says reception will not start when the charge status is “low.” This guidance concerns the GPS Solar context described by Seiko; it is not a general threshold for every solar watch.

Citizen caliber F158: distinguish generation from reserve
The Citizen F158 instructions distinguish two readings: the function hand indicates power reserve, while the light-level indicator reports the power generation level at the time it is operated. A high light-level reading shows that power is being generated at that moment; by itself, it does not mean the stored reserve is full.

Use the lighting conditions and temperature limits in your exact manual. For example, Casio’s module 5550 guidance warns against charging under high-temperature conditions; follow the 5550 manual for that module rather than assuming all watches have identical limits. A charging time cannot be generalized across models from these instructions: the appropriate procedure depends on the watch and its charging conditions.
